The Office of Management and Budget released a rendering of what the Trump Gold House would look like. Russell Vought, Trump’s OMB Director, told reporters “It’s going to be really fabulous,” and that, “the new name and paint choice was made by President Trump personally and honors President Trump at a level that he richly deserves as the greatest and most effective and transparent President in the history of the United States of America.”

Acosta added that work to update directional and informational signs has apparently already begun, with Trump Organization volunteers led by Donald Trump Jr. roaming nearby streets with donated materials.

Vought also released the new Trump Gold House seal and mandated that all stationary and signs bearing the old “Radical Democrat Blue” logo be burned in ovens that were recently installed in the basement and replaced with the updated Trump Gold House version.

Other Recent Federal Rebrandings

The former White House’s rebranding follows other recent high-profile Executive rebrandings, including the newly named, “The Donald J. Trump and Nasty Democrat John F. Kennedy Memorial Center for the MAGA Arts,” which has been highly praised across the political spectrum for its inclusiveness.

Trump Gold House Press Secretary Karolyn K. Keavitt pointed out that Democratic leaders have come out in support of the Presidential Palace’s renaming.

President Trump Weighs In

“We did this to bring the country together,” President Trump said. “No one has ever done this before but we did it and we still included the Radical Left Kennedy, whose son RFK is doing a great job by the way, but he’s no longer a nasty Democrat, did you know that? He and I talked before the election which we won in a historic landslide by the way, and he came to us and begged us for a job and said you know what, you’re right, you’ve been right all along about the country and the health, really about everything. He said, I’m going to switch sides, even though I’m pretty sure it made his family extremely upset, they’re very sensitive you know, the Kennedys, about their reputation as Leftists, but little Robert was very brave and joined with us and now the Trump Gold House proves everything we said.”

Their extremist hyperbole is often a dead giveaway of their bad intentions.

Here in the U.S., authoritarian President Donald Trump has implemented inflammatory, divisive and even illegal policies in the hope of creating an instigating event that he can use to further his authority. Trump has unconstitutionally sent armed military troops into Democratic cities, he has sent anonymous, masked ICE thugs to kidnap non-white people from their workplaces, farms and even off the quiet streets of America, and his law enforcement cultists have forced people onto planes and disappeared them to other countries, all while blatantly flaunting federal court orders to not do those things.

Trump, and his Secretary of White Nationalism, Stephen, “Goebbels” Miller, have been hoping that this environment of fear and violence, that they themselves created, would culminate in a tragic incident that they could use as the trigger for their final solution.

Ironically, Trump and Miller’s hoped-for instigating act appears to have dropped in their laps not through their own despicable policies and actions but through the actions of a young man named Tyler Robinson, who allegedly murdered MAGA bigot Charlie Kirk on Sep 10.

Coups in democratic nations have happened many times throughout history. To be clear, Donald Trump is not particularly smart or original. He is however entirely shameless and very likely a mentally ill sociopath because he has absolutely no empathy whatsoever for anyone other than himself. These two traits, combined with his innate ability to deceive and manipulate people are the perfect recipe for a dictator bent on achieving totalitarian power in what used to be the greatest country on earth.

People don’t want to believe a coup could happen in the United States. People in 1930s Germany didn’t think it could happen to them either. If we truly want to save America, we need everyone who loves this country, progressives and conservatives to wake up to the danger. One way to do that is to explicitly expose the stark parallels between Trump’s ongoing attack on all Americans with one of the most severe authoritarian takeovers in history, by Adolph Hitler.

German Reichstag Fire / Kirk Murder

On February 27, 1933, a mere four weeks after Adolf Hitler was legally appointed Chancellor by Germany’s president, the Reichstag2 in Berlin was set ablaze by an arsonist. A Dutch communist, Marinus van der Lubbe, was found inside, arrested and later beheaded by guillotine for the crime. Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime immediately attributed the attack to a broader communist conspiracy aimed at overthrowing Hitler’s fledgling government. Despite scant evidence of a coordinated plot, Hitler declared it the opening salvo of a "Bolshevik revolt," and framed communists as existential threats to Germany.

Does this sound familiar?

On September 10, 2025, Charlie Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of Turning Point USA and a high-profile MAGA influencer, was fatally shot during a speaking event at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah. The alleged shooter, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson is a young white Christian male from a conservative, Trump-supporting family. Robinson was arrested on September 12 after confessing to a relative.3

Despite his conservative Christian upbringing, Robinson allegedly sent messages related to leftist memes and role-play communities. There are reports that his romantic partner is queer and might be trans. Kirk’s hateful and bigoted rhetoric toward the trans community, much like Hitler’s rhetoric blaming Jewish people for all of Germany’s perceived problems4, might have contributed to sending Robinson over the edge.

Nazi Response to the Instigating Act

Hitler's public statements amplified the public’s fear. He reportedly shouted at the fire scene about "sub-humans" in "mouse-holes," while Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels orchestrated a narrative of communist terror.5 Hitler used the Reichstag fire to justify the suspension of civil liberties through the Reichstag Fire Decree which suspended key civil liberties under the Weimar Constitution including freedom of speech, the press, the right to assembly, and habeas corpus.

The Reichstag Fire Decree gave the German government sweeping powers including warrantless arrests, indefinite detentions, and the dissolution of opposition parties. In addition to communists, the Decree also targeted Social Democrats, pacifists and journalists. Hitler justified the Decree as a "defensive measure against communist acts of violence endangering the state.” Crucially, he used the Decree’s power to have over 4,000 communists6 arrested and thrown in jail.

The imprisoned included all KPD (Communist Party) Reichstag delegates, which ended their electoral participation. The crackdown paved the way for rushed parliamentary elections on March 5, 18 days after the instigating fire. The Nazis secured a plurality (43.9%) and fewer than three weeks later, on March 23rd, the newly-formed Nazi-led Reichstag (similar to our House of Representatives) rubber-stamped the Enabling Act that granted Hitler dictatorial powers to rule by decree without any further parliamentary oversight. The Act effectively ended democratic opposition.

MAGA Response to the Instigating Act

As with van der Lubbe, Robinson had no known ties to organized groups, leftist or otherwise. Nevertheless, Trump, in a September 11 Oval Office video and in subsequent remarks, blamed the "radical left" for inciting the violence through "hateful and despicable" rhetoric. He compared Kirk to victims of "left-wing purveyors of political violence" and vowed to "beat the hell out of … radical left lunatics." Trump said he would posthumously award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom and he ordered flags lowered to half-staff. Although Kirk was a hateful and bigoted man who only pretended to be reasonable, Trump is now cynically turning him into some kind of “hero” or saint to justify his authoritarian actions.

Trump’s instigating act is ongoing and we cannot know with any certainty how exactly he will use it to advance his coup. We can however look at the ways he has already violated or pushed the boundaries of the Constitution and federal law to get an idea of where this is headed if Americans on all sides do not stand up and oppose him.

This year, Trump deployed the military7 against American civilians to test how far the courts and the country will let him go. FBI Director Kash Patel and Stephen Miller have suggested that federal forces would target “Antifa networks” (whatever those are) in urban areas, which usually means Democratic strongholds like Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, or Washington, D.C. Trump sycophants like Border Czar Tom Homan have called to deploy federal resources, including ICE and potentially the National Guard, to cities perceived as “soft on leftist violence.”

The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the military from enforcing domestic laws without either congressional approval or an invocation of the Insurrection Act but that has not stopped Trump at all. Look for him to continue to use the military in illegal ways or to eventually invoke the Insurrection Act as cover for using the military to actually support his rule.

While the active use of the military against American civilians is the most dangerous of Trump’s violations, there are many, many more examples:

• Ending Birthright Citizenship – Trump signed an executive order attempting to end birthright citizenship for children of non-citizens in violation of the 14th Amendment which grants citizenship to “all persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” Legal scholars, including Laurence Tribe and Erwin Chemerinsky, called this “blatantly unconstitutional.”

• DOJ Investigations into Political Speech – Attorney General Pam Bondi has launched investigations into Democratic lawmakers for their public political speech, claiming they are “criminal threats.” The DOJ also threatened law schools to end DEI policies or face repercussions, sued law firms to end DEI programs and took funding away from universities deemed too liberal or anti-Trump. These are all clear violations of the First Amendment’s right to free speech, and the Fifth Amendment’s right to due process.

• Using Federal Agencies to Censor American Media – Trump used the FCC to threaten ABC with a loss of their broadcast license over comedian Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes about Kirk and Trump. The Walt Disney Company, owner of ABC, capitulated within a day and “indefinitely” removed Kimmel’s show from the air. Stephen Colbert was similarly forced off the air by CBS after he criticized parent company Paramount’s settlement of a nuisance suit brought by Trump.

• Penalizing Law Firms Who Opposed Him – Trump issued a series of Executive Orders against prominent "Big Law" firms he accused of "weaponizing" the legal system against him. The EOs aimed to punish the firms for past representation of clients or lawyers who had opposed the thin-skinned Trump, such as those involved with the special counsel investigations led by Robert Mueller and Jack Smith. The punitive measures included:

  • Suspending the security clearances of attorneys.

  • Terminating government contracts with the firms.

  • Restricting employees' (attorneys’) access to federal buildings and officials, thereby making it impossible for the lawyers to represent their clients.

• Firing of Federal Prosecutors, Inspectors General, and Civil Servants – The administration fired dozens of federal prosecutors, 17 inspectors general (independent watchdogs investigating waste and fraud), and thousands of career civil servants, often without cause. Trump targeted people who were involved in prior investigations that he did not like, such as those related to the January 6 MAGA Capitol riot that Trump instigated.
  
  The firings violate federal civil service protections under laws like the Civil Service Reform Act of 1978, which requires cause for termination of career employees. The removal of inspectors general without notice or rationale to Congress breaches the Inspector General Act of 1978. Targeting personnel for past investigative roles is clearly retaliatory and violates their free speech and association rights under the First Amendment, but MAGAs clearly only care about the Constitution when it benefits them.

• Dismantling of Independent Agencies (e.g., USAID) – Trump tried to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), established by Congress in 1998, without legislative approval. Closing an agency created by statute without congressional consent violates Article I, which reserves legislative authority to Congress.
  
  Courts have ruled that the executive cannot unilaterally dismantle agencies, as it violates the separation of powers. Trump has cut all funding instead (see above), effectively ending the agency and he has taken a similar approach to other areas like the Department of Education.

• Misuse of the Alien Enemies Act – Trump invoked the 1798 act to justify immediate deportations and detentions without evidence of a “declared war” or “invasion” as required by the statute. He has also floated the idea of deporting U.S. citizens to El Salvador which is obviously illegal.

• Impoundment of Congressionally Appropriated Funds – Trump issued executive orders to illegally freeze or withhold billions of dollars in congressionally appropriated funds in violation of the Impoundment Act. He attacked or eviscerated public-good programs affecting Medicaid, childcare, housing subsidies, and education.

• Granting DOGE Access to Sensitive Government Systems – Elon Musk’s DOGE was given access to Social Security data and even the Treasury Department’s payment systems which includes tax refund data. Musk then posted about specific payments, which is a violation of the Privacy Act of 1974 as well as numerous other laws.

There are many more examples, but this article can’t list them all or it would turn into a 500-page encyclopedia of abuses. However, there is one more egregious action taken by Donald Trump that should scare all Americans on the left and the right because it resulted in deaths.

On two or three occasions in early September, Trump ordered the U.S. Military to murder 15 or more civilians in the Caribbean Sea by blowing up the small boats they were on. Trump labeled the victims “narcoterrorists” from the Tren de Aragua gang whom he claimed, without presenting any evidence, were transporting drugs.

These murders were war crimes under both U.S. and international laws.

Extrajudicial killings are unambiguously illegal:

1. The Posse Comitatus Act prohibits the use of federal military forces for domestic law enforcement even when it occurs outside the U.S. Preventing the smuggling of illegal drugs from a country we are not at war with is explicitly a law enforcement responsibility. The Coast Guard has decades of experience interdicting drug smugglers at sea and they could have been legally ordered to stop and search the boats. Never before has the U.S. blown up suspected civilian criminals with missiles fired at them by the military.

2. Under Article I, Section 8 of the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war and to regulate the military. Trump asserts Article II commander-in-chief powers and claims the murders advance “national interests” and do not constitute “war.” This is a specious claim but one which the current Supreme Court’s MAGA majority will likely rubber-stamp anyway.

3. Congress did not authorize the strikes. Instead, Trump issued a secret executive directive in July that designated certain cartels as terrorist organizations. Legal experts say that no plausible domestic legal authority supports the U.S. Government targeting drug traffickers as if they are enemy combatants. U.S. law simply does not give him that authority at all.

4. There are federal laws against extrajudicial killings if any victims were American. No one knows who the victims were, or their nationalities since they were blown into little pieces. That’s awfully convenient for Trump.

5. The killings violate the laws of armed conflict which makes them a war crime under 18 U.S.C.§2441. In fact, one Pentagon official anonymously called one of the strikes a “criminal attack on civilians.”

6. The attacks violate a number of international laws, including the UN Charter and Use of Force and the International Human Rights and Maritime Laws. Perhaps most importantly though, the strikes are war crimes under the Geneva Convention.

SO IS THIS REALLY WHAT YOU VOTED FOR, CONSERVATIVES?

Adolf Hitler overturned the rule of law and was given dictatorial powers through the Enabling Act of 1933, which was passed by a majority vote of the German Reichstag after a campaign of intimidation and a purge of opposition lawmakers.

Donald Trump is right this minute overturning our rule of law by outright ignoring the laws he doesn’t like or which get in his way of accumulating power. The courts, backed by the six Supreme Court justices who gave him “absolute immunity,” along with sycophantic, power-hungry GOP legislator bootlickers are doing nothing to stop him.

Hitler openly killed his opponents, beginning with communists, before moving on to gays, gypsies and ultimately murdering over six million Jews.

Trump’s era of directly killing Americans might be just beginning, but make no mistake about his ability to do so without remorse. He callously ordered people killed when he could just as easily have ordered them captured and tried in court if they were in fact smuggling illegal drugs into the U.S.

Donald Trump crossed his very last moral redline and that should scare the hell out of everyone, right, middle or left. Being MAGA today is not going to save you tomorrow when his narcissistic, syphilis-addled, sociopathic brain decides on a whim that you just aren’t loyal enough, or that you crossed him, or that you offended him.

Heed the warning, America, before it’s too late.

Following the reprehensible murder of the racist, misogynistic, homophobic and transphobic bigot, Charlie Kirk on September 10, 2025 during a Turning Point USA event at Utah Valley University, Donald Trump and prominent MAGA figures and influencers in the GOP have worked overtime to turn him into a so-called martyr and hero. Not ones to let any opportunity pass them by, they quickly framed his death as a politically motivated attack by the "radical left," that is supposedly waging a broader war on so-called conservative values, free speech, and Christian nationalism.

Kirk's role as a key architect of youth mobilization for Trump's 2024 victory, his endorsement of JD Vance as VP, and his influence on MAGA culture through Turning Point USA have amplified the MAGA tributes, turning his killing into a rallying cry for vengeance, division and further radicalization. In other words, they’re doing the very thing they accuse the Left of doing: attacking progressives using violent rhetoric.

Division is the most potent currency that Trump and his billionaire buddies use to enrich themselves financially and politically at the expense of Americans and by extension, American democracy. Do you think Trump cares that he broke the country? Hear it in his own words:

Charlie Kirk’s murder is a tremendous opportunity for the billionaires and MAGA elites. From the top down, the canonization of Charlie Kirk has begun.

Donald Trump – As MAGA’s Dear Leader, Trump has been the most vocal and most explicit in posthumously canonizing Kirk, repeatedly calling him a "martyr for truth and freedom" in official statements and speeches. In an Oval Office address, Trump expressed "grief and anger" over the slaying, listed it alongside other acts of "radical left political violence" (conveniently omitting similar attacks on Democrats), and ordered national flags flown at half-staff.

He vowed a crackdown on Kirk critics, stating that Kirk’s voice would now be "bigger and grander" in death, and announced plans on September 11th to award him the Presidential Medal of Freedom posthumously.

Trump described Kirk as a "patriot who devoted his life to... liberty, democracy, [and] justice," emphasizing his respect among youth and blaming the Left for fostering an environment of violence, even as he himself does exactly that.

JD Vance – Vance, whom Kirk championed as Trump's 2024 running mate (introducing him to Trump world and publicly endorsing him as the heir apparent for MAGA), has mourned Kirk as a personal friend and a political force multiplier.

On September 11, Vance posted a prayer on X: "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord," and praised Kirk's supposed commitment to "open conversation with allies and critics alike" in a polarized era. Vance forgot to mention that he and Kirk were two of the primary instigators of that polarization.

In a performance for the ages, Vance personally helped carry Kirk's casket onto Air Force 2 for transport from Utah to Arizona. (We nee to know, were those tears in Vance’s eyes?1)

The Air Force 2 stunt was dutifully captured in widely shared videos that hard-right MAGAs on X hailed as proof of Kirk's supposed heroism. Vance even skipped a 9/11 New York memorial to visit Kirk's family, which perfectly sums up MAGA’s values and priorities.

While Trump and Vance are the most visible, the MAGAsphere is not limited to the top two performative grifters. Here are just a few examples2 of the far right profiting from Kirk’s death:

• Pete Hegseth (Secretary of Defense): In a September 12 9/11 remembrance speech, Hegseth saluted Kirk as a “fallen warrior,” while dutifully quoting Jesus: "Well done, good and faithful servant." Hegseth tried to turn Kirk's death into a national security narrative, portraying it as an assault on American defenders of faith and freedom. Hegseth is a longtime Kirk ally from Turning Point events.

• Susie Wiles (White House Chief of Staff) called Kirk "the highest-profile MAGA person outside of those that are working here.” Would she have made that claim one day earlier, when Kirk was still alive? Of course not, but it was safe hyperbole. You’re not going to alienate any allies by saying a dead guy was the best MAGA outside of the White House when the dead guy is no longer competing for that position.

Congress and GOP Officials: Congress held a moment of silence for Kirk on the House floor, with MAGA-aligned members like Rep. Nancy Mace framing him as a victim of leftist hatred. Playing the victim is an effective propaganda technique. There were numerous other GOP congressional tributes, including declarations from senators and representatives jumping on the bandwagon and tying his death to attacks on conservative “values” and activism.

Influencers and Right-Wing Media: MAGA influencers have flooded X and podcasts with martyr rhetoric, portraying Kirk's death as a catalyst for radicalization akin to Trump's July 2024 assassination attempt.

• Benny Johnson (YouTuber): Called Kirk "a martyr" in grief-stricken posts.

• Ben Shapiro (Daily Wire co-founder): Eulogized him as an irreplaceable voice for youth conservatism.

• Jack Poso (X Blowhard): Praised Kirk's DOJ picks and framed his death as part of a “war” on Trump allies.

• Jesse Watters (Fox News Host): “Whether we want to accept it or not, they are at war with us. And what are we going to do about it?” said Watters. “And we are going to avenge Charlie’s death in the way that Charlie wanted to be avenged.”

• Laura Loomer (Trump’s Woman Friend): Loomer wants the federal government to attack progressive Americans, saying “The best way President Trump can reinforce Charlie’s legacy is by cracking down on the Left with the full force of the government.”

• Christian Nationalists: Several evangelical pastors mourned Kirk as a hero to the Christian right who was killed for his beliefs on gender and immigration. Some absurdly equated the Left with Satan. For instance, Pastor Matt Tuggle of Awaken megachurch in Salt Lake City suggested the murder was evidence of the "evil demonic belief system" of the left. Right-wing Christian worship leader Sean Feucht characterized Kirk's killing as a victory for Satan. It’s hard to take these lunatics seriously except for the fact that millions of people follow them.

• Numerous X accounts like (@)MAGAVoice on X shared emotional videos of Vance carrying Kirk’s casket, declaring: “Charlie Kirk is a true hero to America,” while doing the online version of histrionically weeping.

  

In truth, Kirk's pre-death influence was fairly substantial inasmuch as anyone not named Donald Trump can wield power in today’s GOP. But in death, Kirk is actively being redefined by MAGA elites for their self-interested purposes.

Meanwhile, anyone who criticizes Kirk or “celebrates”3 his murder is attacked by the MAGA mob. Right-wing cancel culture is in full force, with people losing their jobs simply for mentioning Kirk’s death in anything but the most glowing and heroic light.

This posthumous lionization of Kirk as a MAGA Man of Principle and Faith is as transparently superficial as it is false. Charlie Kirk’s own words show that he was a GOP Christian because a follower of the OG Jesus would never spew the vitriol that Kirk did.

He was racist:

He was transphobic:

For those of you who are not history buffs, the guilty Nazis from the International Military Tribunal (IMT) at Nuremberg were sentenced on October 1, 1946. Twelve were sentenced to death, three to life imprisonment, and four to prison terms ranging from 10 to 20 years. A mere 15 days after sentencing, ten of the condemned men were swiftly hanged, while Herman Göring committed suicide the night before his execution.

That is what MAGA’s Saint Charlie wanted to do to medical doctors for providing established health care to their patients because he and his warped version of God did not “approve” of it.

He was misogynistic:

On women’s and girls’ reproductive health care, Kirk was asked if he would force his 10-year-old daughter to birth a baby if she were raped.

He accepted gun deaths4 as a reasonable cost of the 2nd Amendment:

He was against religious freedom (other than for his own brand of Christianity) and he used other people’s faith as a weapon against them:

This brings us back to Donald Trump brazenly using U.S. federal government funds as if the Treasury is his personal political bank account. It is objectively corrupt to bestow the trappings of State Honors on Charlie Kirk who was a private citizen when he was gunned down. He never worked for the U.S. Government. He never served in the military.5 He was never elected to public office.

Charlie Kirk had absolutely no connection to the United States Government aside from his political relationship with Donald Trump. This was the first time in history that a purely private citizen’s body was given VIP treatment and transported on AF 1 or AF 2.

Let that sink in.

Ask yourself, why did Trump use taxpayer dollars to pay for the cost of flying Kirk’s body home on Air Force 2?

The answer is simple and unequivocal:

Because Trump and MAGA want to turn a two-bit racist bigot into a “hero” so they can use his death to claim (again) that they’re under attack.

Trump does not care about Charlie Kirk any more than he cares that he is dividing and destroying America (see the linked video at the top of this article). As always, Trump cares only about himself and his hold on power and his wealth. Charlie Kirk’s assassination and subsequent MAGA sainthood is just another convenient way to help him do both.

The rest of the GOP are more than happy to fall in line, knowing there are always going to be some sloppy scraps they can lap up in his wake.

These claims are convenient (for them) because they get to portray themselves as the never-ending victims of an elite Democratic cabal who want to “import” illegals so they can vote for Democrats, thereby depriving Republican politicians, and more importantly, the millions of GOP voters, of political power for all eternity.

Statements like Musk’s sound scary, and they appeal to economically struggling voters who desperately need someone else to blame for their woes. Never mind that the GOP elite themselves are the ones who wrecked the middle class in their pursuit of spending and tax cuts for billionaires and massive corporations. The fear of change, of an “invasion” from people who are not like them (meaning not white) is a powerful emotional message that resonates especially well with poorly-educated1 Republican voters.

The primary reason the GOP sabotaged these efforts is simple: immigrants have no political power and that makes them a useful scapegoat for those seeking to gain or hold political power. Authoritarian regimes and dictators often rise up on the backs of perceived grievances against some other group, whether it’s Gypsies, Jews and homosexuals (Hitler in Nazi Germany), Muslims from another sect (Bashar al-Assad in Syria, and many other middle east conflicts), or “migrant laborers from the south,” Communists, and later “the West,” meaning the United States and Europe (in Putin’s Russia).

Donald Trump’s and MAGAs’ primary targets today are illegal immigrants and LGBTQ (especially transgender) folks.

By scapegoating vulnerable populations, authoritarians get to portray themselves as the heroes of their nation’s story. In their propaganda, it is only they who are uniquely able to “save” their nations from the problems they themselves manufactured. The cure to the citizens’ woes runs through the authoritarian’s self-proclaimed strength and with their simplistic and seemingly common-sense solutions (“We’re gonna deport them all!”) that no one else is strong or brave enough to implement.

The Truth About American Immigration Policies

The truth about America’s immigration is starkly different than Trump’s lies about it. Over the past 50 years, Democrats have made at least seven major attempts to work with Republicans in a bipartisan manner on immigration reform. Five of the seven efforts were derailed by GOP resistance or outright obstruction.

Below, I take a look at the facts of these efforts from 1977-2025. While some of them reached the stage of formal agreements or bills, others were negotiations that collapsed before finalization.

• 1977–1980: Select Commission on Immigration and Refugee Policy (SCIRP)

  • Agreement: Established in 1978 under President Jimmy Carter, SCIRP was a bipartisan commission chaired by Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, with members from both parties, including Senators Edward Kennedy (D) and Alan Simpson (R). Tasked with studying immigration policy, it produced a 1981 report recommending a mix of legalization for undocumented immigrants, stronger border enforcement, and employer sanctions for hiring unauthorized workers. This laid the groundwork for the 1986 Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). While not a legislative agreement, it was a significant bipartisan effort to shape policy, back in an era when most Republicans actually cared about finding pragmatic solutions.

  • GOP Sabotage: None directly. The commission’s work was consensus-driven, and its recommendations were broadly supported by both parties. However, some conservative Republicans, including those aligned with emerging anti-immigrant sentiments, expressed skepticism about legalization, which foreshadowed later resistance. No formal legislation emerged during this period, so there was no specific agreement to sabotage.

  • Why: Immigration was not yet a deeply polarizing issue, and the GOP lacked a unified anti-immigration faction. The commission’s non-binding nature meant there was little immediate political risk, allowing bipartisan cooperation.

• 1982–1984: Simpson-Mazzoli Bill (Precursor to IRCA)

  • Agreement: Senators Alan Simpson (R) and Romano Mazzoli (D) introduced the Immigration Reform and Control Act in 1982, a bipartisan effort to address illegal immigration. The bill proposed legalizing undocumented immigrants who arrived before a cutoff date, strengthening border security, and penalizing employers for hiring undocumented workers. It passed the Senate in 1982 and 1983 but stalled in the House. Negotiations continued, leading to the successful 1986 IRCA.

  • GOP Sabotage: The bill faced resistance from some House Republicans, particularly conservatives, who opposed legalization as "amnesty" (a precursor to the racist propaganda to come later) and demanded stronger enforcement provisions. In 1982, House GOP members, influenced by early anti-immigrant groups like the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), pushed amendments to weaken legalization provisions, delaying progress. In 1984, House Republicans, alongside some Democrats, stalled the bill over concerns about cost and enforcement mechanisms, forcing further negotiations. The bill’s eventual passage (as IRCA) in 1986 required concessions, including stricter enforcement measures to appease GOP critics.

  • Why: Emerging conservative factions within the GOP, responding to perceived concerns about immigration’s economic and cultural impacts, viewed legalization as rewarding illegal behavior. The early 1980s recession allowed them to amplify fears about job competition and Republicans prioritized enforcement over compromise. Political caution ahead of the 1984 election also played a role, as GOP members avoided alienating their base.

• 1986: Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA)

  • Agreement: Signed into law under Republican President Ronald Reagan, IRCA was a bipartisan effort that legalized about 3 million undocumented immigrants while strengthening border enforcement and introducing penalties for hiring undocumented workers. It emerged from negotiations between Democrats, who prioritized legalization because of the economic benefits in the labor force, and Republicans, who emphasized enforcement.

  • GOP Sabotage: None. This is a rare success story as it shows bipartisan cooperation was possible. The bill passed with support from both parties, but subsequent GOP resistance to similar comprehensive reforms suggests this was an outlier, driven by Reagan’s willingness to compromise and less intense partisan polarization at the time.

• 2005–2006: Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act (Kennedy-Kyl Bill)

  • Agreement: The Senate debated the bipartisan Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act of 2007, co-sponsored by Senators Ted Kennedy (D) and Jon Kyl (R). It proposed enhanced border security, a guest worker program, and a pathway to legalization for undocumented immigrants. A precursor, the 2006 Senate bill, passed with a filibuster-proof majority, including support from then-Senator Mitch McConnell whose long history of craven hypocrisy and obstruction to solving America’s problems is one for the history books.

  • GOP Sabotage: The 2007 Kennedy-Kyl bill failed to overcome a Republican-led filibuster in the Senate. House Republicans also passed an enforcement-only bill (the Sensenbrenner bill) in 2005, refusing to reconcile it with the Senate’s comprehensive approach. The sabotage stemmed from conservative backlash against legalization provisions, once again labeled with the emotional “amnesty” term by right-wing activists and talk radio, which pressured GOP senators to block the bill. House Republicans, responding to their base’s anti-immigrant sentiment, which they themselves had fostered and supported for decades, refused to consider the Senate’s compromise, prioritizing a hardline enforcement stance.

  • Why: The GOP’s base, particularly conservative activists, viewed legalization as rewarding illegal immigration without any regard for the fact that these workers could have come to work in the U.S. legally if the GOP had cooperated with Democrats twenty years earlier. With the 2006 midterms approaching, Republicans feared electoral backlash from their constituents whom they had primed or decades to scapegoat immigrants. The rise of a very vocal and extremist anti-immigrant right within the GOP made compromise politically risky.

• 2007: Bipartisan House Negotiations (Becerra-Johnson Group)

  • Agreement: Democratic Representative Xavier Becerra and Republican Representative Sam Johnson led a bipartisan House group starting in 2007 to negotiate comprehensive immigration reform, including border security and legalization provisions. The group aimed to build on earlier Senate efforts and included members like Luis Gutiérrez (D) and Paul Ryan (R).

  • GOP Sabotage: By 2013, six years later, key Republican members, including Sam Johnson and John Carter, withdrew from the group under pressure from the radical Tea Party faction, rendering the effort defunct. The Tea Party’s influence, fueled by GOP-stoked cultural anxiety over immigration (82% of Tea Party identifiers expressed fear of undocumented immigrants), pushed House Republicans to abandon compromise. Then-Speaker John Boehner also refused to bring any Senate-passed reform to a House vote, citing lack of support among his caucus.

  • Why: The Tea Party’s rise after 2008 shifted the GOP toward a more hardline, anti-immigrant stance. House Republicans, facing primary challenges from ultra conservative activists, prioritized their re-election over bipartisan reform. The GOP’s growing dependence on a white, working-class base made legalization politically toxic.

• 2013: Senate’s Gang of Eight Bill (S.744)

  • Agreement: The bipartisan "Gang of Eight" (four Democrats, four Republicans, including Marco Rubio) crafted S.744, which passed the Senate 68-32 in 2013 with 14 Republican votes. The bill included border security funding, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants, and reforms to legal immigration. It was seen as a landmark bipartisan achievement under President Obama.

  • GOP Sabotage: House Republicans, led by Speaker John Boehner, refused to bring S.744 to a vote, effectively killing it. Despite widespread public support for comprehensive reform, the GOP-controlled House once again prioritized enforcement-only approaches, citing concerns over “amnesty” and distrust of Obama’s enforcement commitments. Rubio himself distanced himself from the bill after right-wing media criticized it as too lenient.

  • Why: The GOP’s refusal was driven by electoral strategy and internal divisions. Post-2012, after Mitt Romney’s loss in the presidential election, some Republicans saw outreach to Latino voters as necessary, but the Tea Party and conservative media (e.g., Rush Limbaugh) framed the bill with the tried and true propaganda as rewarding illegal immigration. House Republicans, fearing primary challenges, avoided any vote that could alienate their white racist base. The 2014 midterms amplified this caution, as GOP candidates made immigration into a wedge issue.

• 2018: Bipartisan Senate Immigration Deal (Rounds-Graham Proposal)

  • Agreement: Senators Mike Rounds (R) and Lindsey Graham (R), along with Democrats, negotiated a bipartisan deal to provide $25 billion for border security, including a border wall, in exchange for protections for "Dreamers" (undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children). The proposal aimed to balance GOP enforcement priorities with Democratic demands for legalization.

  • GOP Sabotage: The Trump White House pressured Republicans to abandon the deal, insisting on stricter enforcement measures and opposing any Dreamer protections. Trump knew that a successful bipartisan immigration solution would remove the issue from his authoritarian tool chest. He had absolutely no interest in solving the underlying problem because while that would help America the nation, it would harm Trump the politician. Senate Republicans, following Trump’s lead, withdrew support, and the proposal collapsed before reaching a vote.

  • Why: Trump’s influence over the GOP was at its peak during his first term, and his administration saw immigration as a winning campaign issue for 2018 midterms. By rejecting compromise, Trump and Senate Republicans kept the border issue alive to rally their base, portraying Democrats as weak on immigration, even though the GOP killed the agreement. The deal’s failure also aligned with Trump’s broader strategy of avoiding legislative any wins for Democrats even at the expense of harming American citizens and the economy.

• 2024: Senate Border Security and Foreign Aid Bill

  • Agreement: A bipartisan Senate team, including James Lankford (R) and Chris Murphy (D), negotiated a bill combining border security reforms with aid for Ukraine and Israel. The bill included stricter asylum standards to appeal to Republican voters, increased enforcement funding, and emergency border closure authority, but excluded legalization provisions like Dreamer protections. In essence, it gave the GOP nearly everything they had been asking for for the past 40 years, in exchange for Ukraine and Israel funding. It was endorsed by groups like the National Border Patrol Council.

  • GOP Sabotage: Former President Trump, the likely 2024 GOP nominee, publicly opposed the bill, calling it insufficiently tough. House Speaker Mike Johnson declared it "dead on arrival" in the House, and Senate Republicans, following Trump’s lead, voted against it (43-50 in May 2024, after a 49-50 failure in February). Only four Republicans supported it initially, and even fewer in the second vote.

  • Why: The GOP’s sabotage was primarily driven by electoral strategy ahead of the 2024 presidential election. Trump, as the frontrunner for the GOP nomination, saw immigration as a potent campaign issue to rally his base. By framing the bill as insufficiently strict, he maintained the narrative of Democratic weakness on border security, a key talking point for Republican voters. House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Republicans, scared of Trump’s influence, prioritized party unity and electoral advantage over bipartisan compromise. The bill’s passage would have handed President Biden a legislative victory, potentially weakening the GOP’s ability to campaign on border chaos in swing states. Additionally, conservative media and grassroots activists criticized the bill as inadequate, pressuring GOP senators to avoid any compromise that could be seen as softening their hardline stance. Trump’s explicit opposition, echoed in posts on X (e.g., calling it a “Democrat trap”), amplified this pressure, ensuring the bill’s failure to maintain immigration as a wedge issue for the election.

Don’t be fooled. The MAGA party, and the GOP before it, do not support any practical solutions to the broken U.S. immigration system. If the system was fixed (and let’s face it, it’s not rocket science), MAGAs would not be able to use it as a wedge issue to divide and destroy America so that they can gain and maintain their power.

The prison, strategically located on a mosquito-infested airstrip approximately one mile west of downtown Miami, was, according to state reports, erected in less than eight hours. This feat of engineering and logistics, achieved without any permits and without a federal request or consultation, is being hailed by the Governor's office as irrefutable proof of Florida's unparalleled efficiency and decisive leadership in the realm of ethnic cleansing.

The projected cost of operating the 21st century’s first new Auschwitz is projected to be just over $450 billion for its inaugural year. DeSantis told reporters that all of the construction and operating costs will be fully reimbursed by a newly created Florida National Deterrence Account, funded entirely by Mexico after they finish paying for the wall (1,440 monthly interest-free payments through Afterpay).

Governor DeSantis's administration, operating under emergency powers of indeterminate origin, bypassed environmental reviews, public comment periods, and legislative oversight that would normally be required by the actual laws. This approach, while defended by the Governor as essential for national security which DeSantis is not responsible for, triggered a flurry of lawsuits from environmental groups and civil liberties organizations. Every one of the suits was immediately dismissed by the recently-created GOP State Courts under their judicial doctrine of “executive prerogative in times of manufactured crisis.”

Financial records for the project remain classified, however leaked documents show that the entirety of the $450 billion budget was funneled directly to a single private contracting firm, Ethnic Solutions LLC, whose sole listed executive is a former campaign staff member for the Governor by the name of Casey DeSantis (unknown relation).

Despite President Donald Trump's recent celebratory tour of the site, where he lauded it as the gold standard for future nationwide detention efforts, federal agencies have unequivocally and plausibly denied any involvement or financial contribution. A statement from the Department of Homeland Security declared that Florida is “solely responsible for the construction and operation of this facility, utilizing its own unique financial mechanisms and means of payoffs.” The divergence in narratives has led some to speculate that the facility is either a rogue Florida State operation or part of a covert, privately funded national initiative designed to circumvent federal oversight and with an explicit goal to terminate brown immigrants with prejudice.

While state press releases vaguely allude to humanitarian accommodations, reports from the few individuals who have managed to see inside the new Alligator Auschwitz paint a different picture. The remote, snake- and alligator-infested location, characterized by its relentless, suffocating humidity and scorching heat, is integral to the facility's design. The guests have no air conditioning, no running water, and only sporadic, rationed access to barely-potable drinking water. There are no bathrooms, but guests are encouraged to relieve themselves into the swamp on the edge of the former airport’s concrete tarmac.

This deity sent a stealth drone over the site to capture images. The temporary housing appears to be comprised of small, open-air, chain-link cages, each designed to hold multiple individuals, exposed directly to the elements and the indigenous wildlife. There are separate, even smaller pens for children, located in areas deliberately chosen for their maximum exposure to the swamp's most venomous creatures, ensuring the brats’ obedience.

“Ron is known for taking immense pleasure in seeing little kids be terrified out of their minds,” an anonymous staffer from then Governor’s office said. “He made us add an air conditioned viewing room with a Barca Lounger that looks directly over the kids’ cages so he could visit whenever he wants to.”

Alligator Auschwitz's design, from its location in a swamp to its lack of basic amenities, is widely understood to be a deliberate and aggressive form of deterrence, crafted to inflict maximum psychological and physical duress. Florida State officials, who by law are not responsible for United States immigration enforcement, are clearly encouraging immigrants to choose between “voluntary self-deportation” and death by natural causes (killer animals and the sun are natural after all.)

The full scope of Florida's Alligator Auschwitz and its impact on human dignity and the moral fabric of America remains to be seen, but its existence stands as a chilling GOP Testament to MAGA’s unyielding vision of American justice and GOP morality.

The Senate version of Trump and MAGA’s Big Bullshit Bill is 870 pages and filled with billionaire benefits and targeted attacks at Democrats and the poor. No one can read and analyze the whole thing in a day or two, so I asked Google’s Gemini AI to look at the bill and identify winners and losers. This post is long, but it includes most of the winners and losers. Please share it widely and call your U.S. House representative (202-224-3121) and tell them to vote no on this atrocity!

This translates into increased funding and potential contracts for defense industries and improved conditions for military personnel.

    Corporate defense companies and their shareholders win big although none of this funding goes to support Ukraine in their defense of democracy against the Putin and his Russian invaders.

• Oil, Gas, and Mining Industries (Winners):

  • The bill promotes "America-First Energy Policy" through various provisions, including:

    • Enhanced onshore and offshore oil and gas leasing.

    • Modifications related to royalties on extracted methane, potentially reducing costs for producers.

    • Provisions for coal leasing and royalties that could favor the coal industry.

    • Extension and modification of the clean fuel production credit.

    • Allowing intangible drilling and development costs to be taken into account for adjusted financial statement income.

    • Adding income from hydrogen storage, carbon capture, advanced nuclear, hydropower, and geothermal energy to qualifying income of certain publicly traded partnerships.

    • "Energy dominance financing".

    Massive amounts of money for oil and gas companies. Increased drilling and mining will cause enormous and permanent environmental damage and pollution which in turn leads to more cancer and illnesses for American citizens.

• Businesses and Corporations (Winners):

  • "Middle-Class Tax Relief": The bill purports to provide "permanent tax relief for middle-class families and workers" through various extensions and enhancements of reduced rates, increased standard deduction, and increased child tax credit.

  • Small Businesses and Rural America: Expansion of qualified small business stock gain exclusion, repeal of revision to de minimis rules for third-party network transactions, increased threshold for information reporting, and exclusion of interest on loans secured by rural or agricultural real property.

    “Middle-class tax relief” sounds great on paper, but the bottom-line reality is not nearly as glowing. See the tax section below.

    The other three bullets are once again giveaways to corporate America.

• Certain Individuals and Families (Mixed Impact/Potential Winners):

  • Families with Children: Enhancement of employer-provided child care credit, adoption credit, and child and dependent care tax credit.

  • Students: Exclusion for employer payments of student loans and expanded qualified higher education expenses for 529 accounts. However, student loan limits are established for graduate and professional students, and graduate/professional PLUS loans are terminated, which could be a significant loss for many pursuing higher education.

  • Those with ABLE Accounts: Extension and enhancement of increased limitation on contributions to ABLE accounts and savers credit allowed for ABLE contributions.

  • People who dye fuel: The bill allows for payments to certain individuals who dye fuel.

    The first bullet might translate into slightly more money in parents’ pockets through increased tax credits. The losers are people who want to go to college because the bill basically kills student loans so no one will be able to afford the (exorbitant) cost of college.

2. People Losing Benefits / Targeted Attacks

• SNAP Recipients (Losers):

  • Sec. 10102. Modifications to SNAP work requirements for able-bodied adults: This section is highly likely to lead to a significant number of able-bodied adults losing SNAP benefits by imposing stricter work requirements. Without the specific details of the modifications, an exact number cannot be provided, but similar policy changes in the past have resulted in hundreds of thousands losing benefits.

  • Sec. 10108. Alien SNAP eligibility: This explicitly targets non-citizens, likely leading to a reduction in SNAP eligibility for this group.

  • Re-evaluation of Thrifty Food Plan (Potential Losers): The bill specifies that the Thrifty Food Plan, which determines SNAP allotments, "shall only be changed pursuant to paragraph (4)" and its cost "may only be adjusted in accordance with this subsection".     Work requirements are a “sounds reasonable” targeted way to kick people off of food benefits. The vast majority of “able-bodied adults” who receive SNAP want to work but can’t find a job, do not have transportation to a job, or have children or dependents to care for.
    
    Under existing federal law (the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Reconciliation Act of 1996) already bans federal public benefits like SNAP and Medicaid to illegal immigrants. Only "qualified aliens” (i.e., legitimate asylum seekers who are following the law) might be eligible. This section is a toothless MAGA propaganda attack and serves no legislative purpose.
    
    The final bullet means that SNAP benefits will no longer keep up with Trump-caused inflation and more people will go hungry.

• Medicaid Recipients (Losers / Targeted Attacks):

If you have never applied for public benefits, it is mind-numbingly difficult to wade through the layers of forms and bureaucracy and many people make mistakes or miss a required checkbox or form and do not get deserved benefits.
    
    By kicking over 8.6-17 million people off of Medicaid. Will that directly lead to more deaths?
    
    A Yale/Penn study cited by multiple sources estimates that the Medicaid cuts could result in 51,000 preventable deaths annually nationwide, potentially making the bill a top ten cause of death in the U.S. This figure is based on historical data showing that for every 1,000 people on Medicaid, 1–4 lives are saved annually due to improved access to care. Saving people from literally dying seems like a good thing for our government to spend money on, doesn’t it? Don’t worry though, none of those 51,000 dead Americans will be relate to Donald Trump or any of the MAGA Congressmen or Senators who voted for this murderous bill.

    Loss of Medicaid coverage increases avoidable hospitalizations, emergency room visits, and untreated chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, heart disease, cancer), leading to higher mortality. For example, reduced access to cancer screenings and treatments will disproportionately affect low-income populations.
    
    The home equity provision is a targeted attack against high-home-price states like New York and California which are mostly Democratic. Many struggling people live in homes they inherited or which increased in value over the decades. MAGA would have people sell their homes to pay for food and health care.
    
    The “prohibited entities” provision is a direct attack on Planned Parenthood, because the GOP hate women.

    • Clean vehicle credit.

    • Qualified commercial clean vehicles credit.

I asked Gemini to identify provisions which are likely to be pork inserted to buy a legislator’s vote. While some are obvious, like Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski’s bribe, for the most part Gemini did not do a great job at tying the giveaways to specific Senators. Nevertheless, here are some examples of seemingly random payouts (“dye fuel?”).

Identifying specific "pork" or carveouts without external information is challenging, as such provisions are often designed to appear broadly beneficial while subtly favoring specific interests or regions. However, based purely on the text, some sections could be interpreted as such:

• Sec. 70428. Nonprofit community development activities in remote native villages.

  : While framed as community development, the specific targeting of "remote native villages" could be a carveout intended to benefit specific communities or a legislator representing those areas.

• Sec. 70429. Adjustment of charitable deduction for certain expenses incurred in support of Native Alaskan subsistence whaling.

Imagine you’re a Democratic Congressman running for reelection in 2026 against a well-funded MAGA GOP opponent. The MAGA lowlife is using every well-worn MAGA dirty trick: lying, insulting and attacking you, distracting voters with racist illegal immigrant bluster or anti-trans bigotry, false claims of cheating and so on.

How do you fight back against the onslaught? You do not have unlimited funds nor access to massive amounts of social media post data like Elon Musk has which he uses to micro target his false narrative.

But… what if you did? What if your staff could go to a website, enter an idea for a campaign ad or TikTok video and a short time later you have a finished product in hand?

What if you could post the new video across all your official social media channels with a single click? What if you could leverage an army of influencers, supporters and bots to amplify and spread your video?

What if you could get detailed, data-driven feedback on the response to your posts and videos to rapidly and efficiently learn which ones are “hitting” and which ones are not so that you can double-down on your successes and not waste more time or money on the misses?

Musk and his MAGA billionaire buddies can do that on their own because they have unlimited funds and full access to X’s (Twitter’s) massive data, but by working together progressives could achieve similar results.

Imagine if all our progressive candidates pooled their resources and created an agnostic, independent support organization whose sole purpose was to promote and secure American Democracy? Not the DNC with all all its politicking and entrenched old guard fending off more liberal new blood. Not a single candidate’s or caucus’s Super PAC that has a specific agenda to promote their own candidate or view to the exclusion of everyone and everything else.

What we need is an organization that supports all progressives who believe that people, not billionaires are what matter in this country. Run by people who believe that fighting for what’s right is more important than fighting for money or power or influence. It would be agnostic in the sense that the specific messaging or candidate is not as important as fighting against tyranny and being effective. We would have an agenda, but it’s an agenda of…doing what’s right for all Americans.

What Is an Independent Progressive Support Organization

Many Democrats, both elected and private are struggling to figure out an effective way to fight back against Trump and his Deep Money State machine. Some, like Senate Minority Leader (for now) Chuck Schumer and Brad Karp, chairman of law firm Paul, Weiss which is (was) one of the leading Democratic firms fighting Trump’s unconstitutional actions, have chosen capitulation.

Others, like Senator Bernie Sanders and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and more recently Illinois Governor JB Pritzker and California Governor Gavin Newsom are fighting back with bold speeches, lawsuits and huge rallies that fire up the Trump regime’s opponents. They are birthing a dissident movement that Jonathan V. Last at The Bulwark astutely points out is critical to defeating Trump.

It should be obvious that appeasing a tyrant will not soften the tyrant or get you any leverage that you can use to block him or slow him down. Schumer had a glorious chance to block the draconian cuts the Republicans included in the Continuing Resolution that funded the government through September and what did Vichy Chuck do? Nothing. He did not even try to use the threat of a filibuster which is one of the few forms of leverage still at the Democrats’ disposal. And then in May, the Republicans advanced their “big beautiful bill” which cuts $880 million dollars from Medicaid so that billionaires like Musk and Bezos can pay even less in taxes.

Is that what Democratic voters want? For our elected officials to just… give up? Maybe if Schumer had put up a fight and killed this thing in March, the GOP would have been forced to back off, but now they’re on the bring of inflicting massive pain and suffering on millions of poor people, including their own voters.

So clearly, the answer is no, Democratic voters do not want more of the status quo. Progressives, moderates and everyone else who has not drunk the Trump Cult Kool-Aid are desperately yearning for leaders with the courage to stand up and fight back.

This is not conjecture, it is empirically proven fact:

Recently I posted a selfie video to Substack Notes that Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) had posted on X in which he said that he was going to sell his Tesla because “it kind of turns out Elon Musk is an asshole.” My Note took off and the last time I checked, it had gotten almost 30,000 Likes and been restacked almost 2400 times.

Meanwhile Sen. Kelly’s original post on X has over 10 million views which is rare for a non-Musk, fake-boosted propaganda post.

Why was Kelly’s post so popular? Because people are desperate for their elected officials to stand up to the bullies. To stand up for America. Sen. Kelly used plain language and voiced what we are all thinking: Yeah, Elon Musk actually is an asshole. It was a rhetorical punch to the bully’s face and it was highly satisfying to millions of people.

Sen. Kelly’s viral post is not the kind of thing you can plan or predict from the top-down ahead of time. It happened organically and naturally. It might be easy to disregard because Kelly has almost a half million followers on X and it stands to reason that his posts will be seen by a lot of people. But that does not explain my cross-post on Substack.

I had only 185 subscribers when I made my post. As you can see in the image above, I gained at least 577 new subs from this one post. That is huge for my little publication and it’s a testament to how powerful Sen. Kelly’s message is.

Clearly, we want this kind of progressive content to go viral every day because it penetrates the obstacles thrown up by the MAGA billionaires who control today’s version of the airwaves. But there are two challenges:

1. How to create content that can go viral

2. How to get our content seen

I talked about some methods to get our content seen in Step 4 of this series, Build and leverage a left-wing media ecosystem. Just like Sen. Kelly, our posts and videos can be seen by millions of voters with the right content, which is where my support organization comes into play.

How do you make viral content? Anyone who claims they can do it at will (or for a fee) is lying or scamming you. It almost always happens spontaneously or organically.

We do not have control of the social media where people like Elon Musk can force MAGA messages down everyone’s throats, so what we really need to do is to recognize and harness organically created content that has potential, no matter where it comes from, and then help it go viral with tools, with data, and with an amplification network that rivals MAGA’s. There actually are more of us than them; they are just louder and noisier and have Musk and Zuckerberg and other billionaires boosting their noise.

Even better, we can expand this support concept beyond content and messaging. My vision in Step 5 is to create an innovative organization unlike any that has ever existed before. An organization that is not tied to a specific candidate or a particular wing or caucus of the Democratic Party or even the Party itself. An organization that supports everyone across the leftwing spectrum whether we agree on every issue or not.

At its core, this organization would have three main objectives:

1. Support fast content creation with no judgement. Be unbiased or agnostic because we don’t know what will resonate with Americans. Throw messaging spaghetti at the wall and see what sticks.

2. Be a conduit for mass dissemination.

3. Collect, analyze (with the help of AI) and share data to see what is working and what is not, much like A/B tests in marketing except at massive scale with thousands of posts and videos.

Progressives don’t all need to be in lockstep with everyone saying the same exact words that the DNC puts out. That is what the entrenched Democratic collaborators keep trying to do.

We do not need talking points distributed weekly devised by consultants based on polling data they’re selling.

We do need attacks, and as many as possible. Whatever is hitting, whatever sticks, we amply those, so as many people as possible see them.

It needs to be relentless and overwhelming. It is shock and awe messaging which is too much for any one politician or group to do so we need to come together and fund an organization that supports all progressive fighters.

In short, what we need is a Fast Action War Room with a few key capabilities:

• Per-channel experts at social media

• Rapid, inexpensive video creation (outsource and/or use AI)

• Utilize AI on social media data to find out what works, what is hitting or going viral and then rocket those hard. You can bet Musk is using AI on his massive X posting dataset. We cannot replicate that, but we can scoop up a lot of data and we can leverage Bluesky which is more open.

• Leverage bots. Elon Musk, the Russians and the Chinese and the MAGAs do it and so will we.

• Be centralized, but with individualized management and functionality, like a clearinghouse and a service with expertise but we let the pols and other participants drive their own message.

War Room Org

I have the organization mapped out and I’m ready to go but I need two things: volunteers and funds. The latter will not come without the former. We need to start building this quickly so we are ready for the 2026 midterms. People will start to donate once they see how effective we are at helping progressive candidates win.

Without bogging down this article with the gritty details, here are the main organizational functions or groups that we need to staff:

• Social Media Operations for hands-on and automated posting and amplification through cooperative influencers (one or more per platform)

• Systems Group

  • Data collection (massive undertaking involving social media, video, newscasts, news sites, government sites, transcripts of speeches, town halls, legislative committee meetings, floor speeches, and so on)

  • Social media AI

  • Legal case tracking

  • Tools (internal and external)

  • Bot development and deployment

• Messaging (leverages Systems Group’s AI, communicate what’s working and what’s not)

• Creative (works closely with Messaging)

  • Writers (organic posts, reaction posts, point-of-view, op-eds, attacks, and so on)

  • Video

  • Music

  • Memes

  • Long-form content, opinion pieces and articles

  • Positive content

  • Negative content

• Reporting

  • Investigative

  • Current Events

  • Opponents

• Legislative (expertise in rules of order, tracking every committee, every vote, vote whipping, provide legislators with options to slow/block bills, decisions, filing complaints, liaison to every friendly legislator).

• Legal (a team of paid and volunteer lawyers (similar to Democracy Docket which focuses on voting rights) to file massive numbers of lawsuits, over EVERY bad thing MAGA is doing at the federal, state and local levels). Clog up the MAGA system.

• Research (Subject Matter Experts in different areas, supports data collection by Systems Group and provides analyses for Messaging, Creative, etc.)

  • Finds and feeds data to Systems Group’s AI dataset(s)

  • Government databases

  • FOIA requests (bombard them, follow up, use Legal to file suits)

  • Commercial datasets

  • News, articles, video data → AI LLMs

• Opposition Research

  • Public

  • Undercover (can feed to Creative)

• Fund Raising

• Administration and Management

• Coordination (strategy and communication)

Ultimately, this will cost millions of dollars which is why we have to get thousands of progressives to band together behind the concept. Both rich and grass-roots, everyone has a part to play in saving American Democracy. We can build a wall to obstruct the enemy, and then push back and ultimately destroy the MAGA cancer. Their victory is not a foregone conclusion.

Why GOP Jesus and What Next?

This is a big idea from someone (me) who is a nobody. I have never worked in politics, never run for office. I am not a social media influencer with a huge following to leverage; I have fewer than 20k followers on X and half that on Bluesky. I am not rich (quite the opposite actually; I know firsthand how Medicaid is a lifesaver) and I do not have a Rolodex full of wealthy or powerful contacts.

I am however intelligent and organized. I’m not young which means I have experienced a lot of life. I have children who deserve the same opportunities that I had growing up in the last century.

Clearly, my odds of success with this idea are slim to none. I get that. But many great things in history started with a simple idea and if you do not put it out there, then you might as well let Trump and Musk and all the rest of the oligarchs take whatever they want from us.

Here is my ask: if you want to be involved in this, send me a message. If you think it’s a great idea, share it far and wide (and more than once) on your own social media. If you know people with skills or funds who can help us realize this dream, then share it with them. Ask for their help and tell them to contact me.

I will start building a list of volunteers which is how we will have to start (with no money). Once we have a few people, we can create a way to communicate (Signal anyone?) and coordinate and plan the next steps.

This is guerrilla warfare for Democracy.

X. Facebook, Instagram, Truth Social, TikTok, Rumble, YouTube, Gab, Gettr, Parler

What do all of these outlets have in common? With the exception of TikTok, which for all practical purposes is owned by the Communist Chinese government, nearly all of these outlets are owned by billionaires or corporations that are controlled by billionaires who support Donald Trump along with his billionaire scamming buddies.

These outlets will never promote Democrats or progressive messages. Their algorithms will always boost MAGA and GOP influencers, memes, and videos and shadow-ban liberal or progressive voices.

You cannot trust any of these sites because they are anti-democracy and anti-American.

What’s Germany Got to Do With It?

Pointing out right-wing media ownership and MAGA bias is not just left-wing whining like the MAGAs do constantly. It is backed by research. For example, Elon Musk used his X platform, just like the Chinese Communist Party used TikTok to directly interfere in the German national elections in support of the far-right AfD party (Germany’s version of MAGA):

Non-partisan social media users in Germany are seeing right-leaning content more than twice as much as left-leaning content in the lead up to the country’s federal elections, a new Global Witness investigation reveals.1

Media manipulation works great when you control the vast majority of both mainstream and social media like Musk, Zuckerberg and the rest of the douche canoes do. Germany’s elections exposed the power of social media control.

Germany has more than two major political parties with more nuanced political positions than the U.S. which lets us better understand public sentiment.

In the election which was held on Feb 23, 2025, the far-right AfD (Alternative for Germany) gained ground significantly. Although it was not enough to participate in the ruling government, we know the authoritarian right-wing is playing the long game. MAGA did not appear in the U.S. out of nowhere; it was a decades-long attack that came to full fruition in the form of Donald Trump.

The left-leaning SPD and The Greens parties both lost voters on a percentage basis, while the far-right AfD and the center-right CDU/CSU gained. You can see where this is heading in Germany, in exactly the same way it is in the United States.

Extremist propaganda is a serious problem for the millions of people worldwide who believe in democracy over right-wing authoritarianism.

How to Counter the Billionaires’ Social Media

There is no easy counter to right-wing media control for progressives simply because we do not have hundreds of billions of dollars like the right-wing billionaires do. Elon Musk spent over $300 million to get Trump elected and he has committed millions more to support Trump’s MAGA movement. Progressives are not in a position to create new social media and mainstream media outlets from the ground up.

The truth is, we are at a significant disadvantage.

Nevertheless, there are some things we can do to blunt or slow down the influence of the right-wing algorithms and media choices.

Participate

The most important thing progressives can do is to continue to participate in the media sphere even though everything is stacked against us and against our values. That means continuing to post and respond on X, Facebook, and other right-wing social media sites.

This is a strategic decision. Even if Musk’s algorithm shows right-wing content two or three times as much as progressive content, our progressive content is still out there and people are still seeing it. They cannot cut it off completely.

Even Musk cannot outright ban viral videos or content. Use your own voice and make yourself heard. We are the majority but Musk and the billionaires use their platforms to make progressives appear as if we are the fringe lunatics, as if they represent the views of most of America.

We know this is not true. For example, 94% of voters think Medicaid funding should be increased (65%) or kept at current levels (29%). But if you doom scroll X, you would think the vast majority of Americans are on board with the GOP’s plan to slash $880 billion from the program.

Every time Medicaid or Social Security or V.A. cuts appear in your feed, push back because aside from the billionaire scammers and the extremist influencer-grifters, nearly all of America is on our side. The same is true for every other popular program or issue that Trump and Musk are attacking.

Support Left Leaning Media and Social Media Alternatives

There are not a lot of healthy alternatives, but there are a few like Bluesky. Personally I post all of my original content on Bluesky, Substack Notes Threads, and X, although I often tweak the content for the different audiences. If I had time or help, I would expand to other platforms as well.

My goal is to reach everyone, even those who do not agree with me. I almost never block anyone because I would rather they be exposed to our message than trapped in their right-wing bubble. Also, negative engagement still boosts our content in the algorithms which is helpful.

There are many insightful, independent sites that you can support. Most mainstream media corporations, even those which traditionally were left-leaning (MSNBC), or at least attempted to be objective (CNN), have surrendered. Do not reward them with your views.

Visit supportive news and commentary sites, click their ads, watch them on the Internet and TV. Subscribe to their YouTube channels, watch their videos. Give them as many eyeballs as you can because collectively we can move the needle.

Meanwhile, avoid sites that are actively anti-American like Fox (of course) but also those that have more recently thrown their lot in with America’s enemies such as The Washington Post and the LA Times.

Amplify Each Other

We are not in competition with each other for views, clicks, or subscriptions. We are all on one team: the Save American Democracy team. (I just realized that spells SAD, but maybe it fits for now. If you have a better name, drop it in the comments.)

If we all retweet / repost / restack each other’s good content, then we we become force multipliers and we expand the reach of that content and the content creators. Follow writers and creators that share your point of view. Interact in their comments to feed the algorithm (but ignore the trolls so you don’t feed the algorithm with their crap).

Hit up a Billionaire or Millionaire

Most of us do not know any billionaires personally, but there are a lot of people who have money to spare and share. People like Mark Cuban, George Soros and other progressive billionaires and millionaires have friends so someone knows someone who knows rich people on the right side of Democracy. If you have connections to anyone who can help fund the opposition, reach out and encourage them to fight with us and for America.

We are going to need all the money we can get to compete with the obscene amounts of wealth the corporate billionaire scammer have. Rather than twenty billionaires, we have millions of grassroots supporters who can donate small amounts. If we can coalesce around a unified strategy of fighting back and not surrendering like Vichy Chuck Schumer did then we will ultimately prevail.

Donald Trump’s MAGA movement is a dangerous all-out assault on American democracy. It feeds on fear, lies, and the spinelessness of those who refuse to confront it head-on. Progressives can’t afford to sit idly by or be polite anymore. If we are serious about crushing this authoritarian wave, we need to defend where we must and attack where we can.

Some in the paid pundit-class, like James Carville (who even knew he was still alive, much less giving out “advice”), recommend that Democrats sit on their hands and let the GOP self-destruct:

“So the question is, how should Democratic politicians respond to this? And what I think they should do is what we call in rural America play possum. Just let it go,” Carville told Ari Melber on MSNBC.

“Don’t get in the way of it. Or as we like to say, don’t just stand there, do nothing. Let this germinate. We don’t need to get in front of it. This freight train is moving. Let’s just get out of the way. And then we’re going to have time. In the immortal words of Dalton in ‘Roadhouse,’ ‘Be nice until it’s time not to be nice.’ And that time is coming shortly.”

This is terrible advice. He wants us to sit on our asses waiting for the GOP to destroy themselves, while they forge ahead destroying America. Trump and Musk are solidifying their authoritarian control over the American government. It is not like the damage stops occurring just because the damage is also hurting MAGA voters and all we need to do is wait them out.

No. What progressives need now are fighters. We need politicians, leaders, and pundits who are bringing gasoline to this fire and pouring it on. We want the flames of the GOP’s internal chaos to burn as hot and as fast as possible.

Many Democratic politicians do not seem to be getting the message. Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer advises us to just wait. “Trump will screw up,” he told Semafor in an interview.

“We’re not going to fall for the Bannon ‘flood the zone,’” Schumer said in the article, referring to Trump ally Steve Bannon’s call for the President to blitz Democrats with orders and executive-branch maneuvers.

Do not fall for it, Chuck. Why should we let them get away with any of their plots? Who is going to pick and choose? Every single thing Trump and Musk does hurts someone in real life, in the real world.

It is unacceptable. It is immoral.

We need to fight, and fight hard, with every dissident weapon we have, and with absolutely no mercy.

It is too bad that some old-school Democrats have not gotten the message that the world has changed and the voters have changed. Progressives desperately want leaders who are fighters now because fighting tooth and nail against the coup is what works.

Do Progressives Really Want a Fight?

Do not take my word for it. Take note of what goes viral (hint: it is not the condescending platitudes of Chuck Schumer or James Carville). Here is a telling example: my Substack that you are reading right now is pretty small. Three weeks ago, I had only about 150 subscribers.

Then I came across a selfie video that Sen. Mark Kelly (Dem, AZ) had posted on X in which he said that he just took his last drive to work in his Tesla. He told us that he was selling it because “Elon Musk kind of turned out to be an asshole.”

I reposted that video on Substack Notes, because it is exactly the kind of message patriotic Americans need to send to the traitor Elon Musk. If you want to sabotage our democracy and blow up the Constitution, it is going to cost you.

That 72-second video really hit home. People loved a U.S. Senator saying out loud, in a calm, measured voice what we are all thinking: Yeah, Elon Musk IS an asshole. That video Note caused my Substack to blow up over the next week or so as thousands of people liked it and re-stacked it.

As you can see from the stats screenshot above, I gained 945 new subscribers from this video alone.1 But this is not about me or my subscriber numbers. The response to this viral video is indicative of what Progressives are desperately yearning for. People want leaders who will call out the hypocrisy and douchebaggery of Trump, Musk and all the rest of the oligarch billionaires who are ripping America off under the guise of fighting “waste fraud and abuse.”

The Bare Minimum

It is time for a new generation of American progressive leadership. At a minimum, here are three key principles that we should look for in our future leaders:

1. Do not submit preemptively

In Yale Professor Timothy Snyder’s words, “Do not obey in advance.”

Trump and Musk rely on people yielding to their influence before resistance can emerge. They issue threats of retribution and assert their dominance, anticipating that others, both Democrats and more moderate Republicans, will retreat or moderate their positions.

Trump uses Executive Orders in unprecedented ways to cow opponents into submission. Look at how many Democratic law firms have caved under his illegal EO’s blocking them from entering federal buildings, including courthouses, which makes it impossible for them to represent their clients. His illegal orders mean the firms stand to lose a lot of money so they acquiesce and cut a deal. It is shameful, but not wholly surprising. People have to eat.

Defiance in the face of this onslaught is imperative. Expose MAGA’s falsehoods, resist Trump’s and Musk’s coercion, and refuse to legitimize their assaults on the federal government, the integrity of the U.S. military, on voting rights, judicial integrity, free expression and a free press, and everything else that he is attacking.

Every concession that we grant now strengthens MAGA’s position later—do not offer it. Force them to take it from us, because at the very least, that exposes their true agenda and their lawlessness, even if the ignorant MAGA chuds applaud and do not realize that their own rights are also being stolen.

Likewise, call out the cowards on all sides that cut and run without fighting. We need to know who has America’s back and who does not.

2. Now is not the moment for indecision.

Ambiguity or appeals to nuance might appear thoughtful or measured but those are luxuries we no longer have. Trump clearly is not interested in discourse. His sole goal is unlimited domination over the nation and more importantly over our finances and tax dollars so that he can loot us to make himself and his billionaire pals even richer.

Progressive leaders who do not unequivocally denounce Trump’s unconstitutional or illegal actions or Musk’s disinformation are not merely cautious, they are enablers. If clarity on the threat we face is absent, participation in the struggle is absent as well.

Nevertheless, we can respect the political reality of elections. Politicians in red or purple states and congressional districts cannot be as vociferous or as direct as those in solid blue areas. We cannot let anyone completely off the hook, however. At the very least, every vote a Democrat casts must be on the side that protects and strengthens Democracy.

Look at how many Democratic Senators voted to confirm incompetent Trump appointees. That has to stop. Let your politicians know where you stand and what you expect from them.

3. Abandon notions of bipartisanship and “common ground”

Trump has no interest in collaboration. His goal is authoritarian supremacy. Extending goodwill to those who supported an insurrection, who endorse the ongoing coup is not virtuous, it is capitulation. We should only support leaders who discard the false illusions of harmony with would-be dictators and are solely focused on America’s enemies’ defeat instead.

These three principles are the bare minimum that we should demand from our leaders to continue receiving progressive voter and financial support. Think of these as the foundation upon which everything else is built.

We need courageous progressive leaders who will engage aggressively and strategically. I talked more about what elected Democrats can do in How to Fight and Defeat MAGA (Part 2). Please take a look and then hold your elected officials accountable.

What You Can Do Now

Support leaders who understand the urgency, who will rise up, speak plainly, and fight relentlessly for all Americans. Pay attention to which leaders are speaking out and which are silent or even tacitly complicit. Support primary opponents in the 2026 midterms who show the courage that today’s moment in history demands.

Be vocal and be loud. Go to Congressional town halls and local council or school board meetings. Go to #HandsOff demonstrations. Identify progressive fighters and amplify their message through your social networks.

Trump, Musk and the rest of the MAGA coup-plotters assume that our capitulation is inevitable and imminent. They are wrong.

We absolutely will not “play possum” and breathlessly hope that the GOP voters will eventually eat their own faces.

We will fight them with every fiber of our beings. We must and we will persist until all of MAGA is defeated.

The second step in my blueprint to defeat Trump and MAGA is to play by MAGA’s own rules and not the old rules of the last century.

Donald Trump is not a smart man. In fact, many fine people say he is a certifiable idiot, in addition to being a sociopathic asshole. He has failed at almost everything he has ever tried to do, including business (at least six bankruptcies) and even crime, with 34 felony convictions. He would be in prison if justice had not been subverted by MAGA judges like Aileen Cannon.

But like most authoritarian dictators around the world, the one thing Trump is obviously great at is tapping into the disaffected psyches of voters who feel they have been left behind as Democrats supposedly forced their “woke agenda” down middle America’s throats.

Trump cheats and lies constantly, he viciously attacks his perceived enemies, and as I talked about in Part 1 of my earlier series on how to defeat MAGA, Trump uses hot-button cultural issues to emotionally trigger his followers and to spark outrage among his opponents. The chaos he creates distracts the media and citizens from his singular objective which is to amass more power and more wealth at the expense of everyone else.

Trump’s rules clearly work for him and they have been adopted by other MAGA politicians and influencers. All that noise gets them the media attention they crave, the clicks, and most crucially, the donations. It is all about the grift with MAGA so MAGA politicians and pundits say whatever gets their chud followers excited and aroused and willing to donate and/or vote for them.

As abhorrent as MAGA’s goals are, Progressives can and should use the same rules and the same techniques albeit in a more ethical way to level the playing field.

What Are These MAGA Rules?

One of the contributing factors in Democratic losses last year was that Democrats have been unwilling, or simply incapable of recognizing and effectively countering the MAGA political paradigm. Trump plays by his own set of MAGA Rules:

1. Create chaos

2. Use propaganda to control the narrative and the masses

3. Lie about everything so no one knows (or cares) what is real anymore

4. Use cultural emotional triggers to attack and distract

You cannot use standard political methods to combat a movement that has no regard for norms, structure, consistency or the truth and progressives need to stop trying. It does not work.

To beat MAGA, we have to fight fire with fire.

Progressives and Democratic politicians who want to survive and win the next four+ years must adapt quickly to the current reality. Those who successfully pivot, who get outside their comfort zone and learn how to push back and attack Trump and MAGA on an equal footing are the ones who will be successful. Some politicians, like AOC, Rep. Jasmine Crockett and Sen. Elizabeth Warren have already figured this out.

On the other hand, Democratic politicians, consultants and pollsters who play it safe, who are stuck in last century’s political machinations and methods, who insist that “bipartisanship” and “good policies” will win the day? Well, good luck to them. They have already been left behind.

You might think that my advice to play by MAGA rules means that we have to sacrifice our morality and our ethics to get down in the mud with the lying MAGA scammers. Nothing could be further than the truth.

We can adapt our methods to theirs without selling our souls. Here is a progressive ethical version of the four MAGA Rules that we can adopt without sacrificing our moral center:

1. Create chaos

2. Use propaganda techniques to gain honest influence

3. Flood the information space

4. Use MAGA’s own emotional trigger issues to turn the tables on them

Let’s examine each of these in turn.

1. Create Chaos

Trump uses chaos to his advantage. Most people abhor instability. By sowing chaos and conflict, Trump keeps everyone off-balance and no one ever knows what is real and what is not real. It also relieves him of responsibility for anything he says or does, since it is “just Trump being Trump.”

Trump floods the zone with lies, attacks, and misdirection about things he might do so that Democrats are constantly scrambling to respond. Meanwhile, the mainstream media ignores most of his lies because he has normalized them to the point that they are not particularly newsworthy. And of course, his attacks on the media, like throwing mainstream news outlet AP out of the White House and off of Air Force One, makes them wary of going too far lest they lose the access that feeds their content.

Here is the thing though: progressives can create chaos too, directed back at the MAGAs. There are several ways this can be accomplished and there are different methods you can use, depending on your role, position, and reach. Our goal with chaos is not to damage the country, but to damage Trump, Musk, and MAGA. We need to gum up and slow down Every Single Thing They Do.

Progressive leaders at all levels, whether elected politicians in Washington or the states or cities must go on the attack. We have two powerful weapons at our disposal: the law, and the pulpit.

Legitimate Lawfare

Progressives need to file lawsuit after lawsuit over everything Trump does, no matter how trivial. Just make sure the suits are legitimate enough to not get attorneys sanctioned or the suits thrown out without causing unintended damage. Lawfare is not just for Republicans anymore.

The goal with lawsuits is the similar to the Right’s lawfare objectives: to consume MAGA resources, to slow the workings of the Trump administration to a crawl and to piss him off. When he gets mad, he mouths off and when he mouths off, he looks stupid and that gets us media attention too. We want to expose his stupidity, his narcissism, his fascism, and his thin-skinned insecurity which is his greatest weakness.

The (Social) Media Pulpit

Our other weapon is the pulpit. Clicks and views, on mainstream media but more so on social media. Every patriotic American needs to attack everything this administration does. Ridicule his every action, every statement, every appointment. Tie every decision to a personal Trump weakness because that triggers him and it triggers the MAGAs: Trump is incompetent, he is insecure, he is old, he is senile, he has dementia, he is a golf cheat. It does not have to be literally true, it just has to seem like it could be true. Throw it at the wall and if something sticks and goes viral, run with it.

Progressives do not need to be unified in our attacks. We do not need to conduct polls first. In today’s social-media world, attacks live for a few days or weeks at most. No one talking about JD’s couch relations anymore. Our goal is to get in people’s faces with something new every day to put Trump constantly on the defensive.

Not every attack will stick, and that is okay. Like Trump, we care about volume, not quality. The overall effect is what matters, not the specifics. We want to create a big-picture narrative out of a million small stories.

Bigoted Rep. Nancy Mace has posted 84,000 (or whatever) times about trans people in the bathroom. No serious person actually cares about that, but she is keeping her attention-getting trigger issue front and center through an overwhelming volume of social media posts and press conferences and floor speeches. The anti-trans attacks distract the Internet from the dangerous things Trump and Musk are actually doing.

Another way to create chaos is to confront Republican leaders in public settings. Most Representatives and many Senators hold town halls in their districts during Congressional recesses. As we recently saw, protesting, commenting and asking tough questions at these town halls are great ways to force them to defend their indefensible support for what Trump is doing. It gets news coverage. It gets the right-wing Twitterverse all aflutter with fake indignation.

Keep being visible. Keep attending #HandsOff and #TeslaTakedown protests. Hold counter-town halls when Republicans are too cowardly to show up for their constituents. You can do a lot on social media, but there’s even more power in peaceful, visible protests and demonstrations.

We want to shape the public narrative through sheer massive volume because that is how the MAGA Rules work and that is how social media works. It is more challenging for progressives because rightwing billionaires own all of the social media platforms, except for Bluesky which does not reach many rightwing voters (and we do need to reach them too.) We talk more about building our own media ecosystem in Part 4 and about how to overcome the billionaire impediment in Step 5 of this series.

The more chaos the Left creates, the more Trump will have to play defense. We know he is incompetent and corrupt, and he has surrounded himself with equally incompetent and corrupt sycophants.

It is time we put MAGA on the defensive for once. The chaos we create will throw Trump and his MAGA apparatus into disarray, it will keep them off-balance and distracted, all of which means they will be less effective. And that is a win for us.

2. Use Propaganda

Propaganda is the "deliberate, systematic attempt to shape perceptions, manipulate cognitions, and direct behavior to achieve a response that furthers the desired intent of the propagandist.”1 In plain English, Trump uses propaganda to shape public opinion and beliefs so that people believe things that benefit him, even when those beliefs are to people’s own detriment.

As I’ve written elsewhere, for people with basic cognitive skills, detecting MAGA propaganda is actually pretty easy. You can read my earlier article on recognizing propaganda which goes into more detail at the link below.

To date, progressives have mostly pushed back against Trump’s propaganda with facts or with ridicule. The thinking is that if we fact-check him, and people just see the easily-proven truth, then they will abandon the clearly illogical beliefs that Trump’s propaganda has instilled in them. Or if we make fun of their asinine beliefs, then they will perhaps be shamed into admitting the truth.

While helpful, logic does not work against propaganda because cult members’ beliefs are inherently illogical. And rather than feeling shame, MAGAs take pride in being attacked by the “libtards” because in their minds the attacks validate and reinforce their own sense of rightness.

Keep fact checking, because it helps inform progressives and people who still utilize critical thinking skills. But we can add to our arsenal with our own version of propaganda.

Progressives can and should use propaganda techniques to shift the public’s opinions away from MAGA and back toward reality. To do that, we need to understand how it works.

A Primer on Propaganda

The short version is that someone in the MAGA Money State seeds the propaganda machine with an obvious lie which is then picked up and amplified by other well-known politicians and influencers. The lie bounces around the right-wing echo chambers until it becomes fact for the MAGA masses who further repeat it or use it to justify whatever idiocy they’re going for.

Propaganda makes use of six primary methods to shape public opinion and beliefs:

• Emotional appeals:

  Propaganda often uses strong emotions like fear, anger, patriotism, or hope to manipulate people's reactions rather than logic.

This is why logic and reason do not work on MAGA cult members. We need to target their emotions instead.

What are MAGAs afraid of? Losing access to health care, inflation and higher prices, job security, safety in their communities, safety while traveling. The actions that Trump and Musk are taking are attacks on all of these everyday bread-and-butter issues. Progressive messaging should focus on appeals to these types of issues to trigger an emotional response in MAGA targets.

That includes using fear. For example, Trump and Musk are undeniably planning to cut Social Security and Medicaid to fund tax cuts for Musk and the other billionaires. Nearly every American worker contributes to Social Security and they all expect to receive benefits while 72 million Americans are already receiving them. There are 80 million Americans on Medicaid. The House budget resolution that passed by a one-vote margin on Feb 25 includes up to $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid.

Millions of beneficiaries who voted for Trump do not believe the cuts will come for them because of Trump’s propaganda. We need to change that perception before it’s too late and the cuts happen. One way to convince them is to trigger their fear of losing out. Create content around their fears, not around the facts which will not believe even though they can find out themselves.

• Simplification:

  Complex issues are presented in a very basic, often black-and-white manner to make them easier to understand and accept.

One challenge that progressives constantly encounter is that explaining the truth, explaining why a lie is a lie, is almost always more complicated than the simple MAGA lie itself (“We’re not touching Medicaid!”).

Rather than fighting misinformation with facts, do what Trump does and simplify the message. Boil every issue down to a one-line slogan or even one-phrase alternative based on the truth and then use repetition to drive the point into the public consciousness. Constantly tie issues to the simplest response. Our goal, surprisingly, is not to educate people; our true goal is to change their opinion. Voters do not need to understand the details or the nuances of something in order to support a position (see emotional appeals above.)

• Selective information:

  Propaganda may only present certain facts or data that support the desired viewpoint while omitting crucial context or contradictory information.

Select only the simplest statement that pushes the truth or counter viewpoint. Exclude the context and the nuance if it detracts from the progressive objective. If Trump says something stupid, it is not our responsibility to explain the context to everyone. Simply highlight what he said, make him look stupid saying it, and let the recipient draw their own conclusion. You are not lying if you frame it in a way that implies something other than what he might have actually meant.

Again, it is not our job to educate and the MAGAs do this all the time because it is effective. If the lack of context leads people to draw an inaccurate conclusion but one that furthers our agenda, then that is fine. That is how propaganda works and people like Musk and the big MAGA propagandists do it a thousand times a day.

A related way to manipulate the message for our benefit is to use satire. Take something a MAGA says or does and then exaggerate it to an absurd extreme. Here is a post I made recently:

Did those employees really say that AG Pam Bondi is a bimbo who got the job because she looks like Ivanka Trump? Of course not, and that is obvious to anyone with half a brain. But it uses satirical hyperbole to get the message out there that Trump has incestuous feelings toward his daughter (which is true) and that he is incompetent (also true) because he is more interested in surrounding himself with women he finds attractive rather than people who are experienced who will do a capable job for the country.

You can convey a lot of impressions with satire and humor. Posts or videos that are funny get more views than head-on attacks that the other side easily dismiss.

• Slogans and symbols:

  Powerful slogans and symbols are used to create a sense of identity and association with a cause.

Who does not recognize the red Make America Great Again hat? Or “DEI,” or the latest one, “fraud, waste and abuse?” We need similar symbols and slogans that people instantly recognize as being representative of truth, honesty and democracy. We also need symbols and slogans that reflect the evils or dangers of the MAGA movement that we can attach to MAGA politicians and pundits.

Memes can also work to visually reinforce our message. For example, right after Trump won I created the meme below to visually highlight that everything that happens now is Trump’s fault.

It is simple, to the point and has several elements that non-verbally reinforce the message including: MAGAs are mindless monkeys; GOP red branding; a MAGA hat; and the MAGA monkey grasping the U.S., renamed as Putin’s puppet state, the United Oblasts of Trumperica. The symbology is conveying a lot without needing to do a lot of explanation.

Slogans and memes almost always occur organically as opposed to being created by focus groups or consultants. We can however use data to determine what is effective and then amplify those that are catching on with the public.

• Name-calling and scapegoating:

  Negative labels are assigned to opposing viewpoints or individuals to discredit them and create an "enemy".

Trump clearly has mastered this tactic. He is a bully who uses name-calling to put civilized people on the defensive (“How do I respond to that?”) and also to deflect from the substance of an issue or to get his way. If someone is responding to the name-calling, they are not necessarily paying as much attention to the actual issue.

Trump’s and JD Vance’s attack on Ukrainian President Zelensky in the Oval Office is a good example of this tactic. It got media attention, it excited the MAGA base, but most importantly, it allowed Trump to sabotage the minerals deal that Zelensky had reluctantly agree to, while blaming Zelensky for the deal’s failure.

Many, if not most politicians will be hesitant to stoop to bullying and name-calling and that is okay. For a few it is on-brand and they should keep it up because it gets them in the news cycle and it gets views for our side. Unelected progressives who have an audience can choose whether to use this tactic and how far to go. It can be a fine line, but it can be very effective as well, especially if you use it sparingly. (When someone who never cusses actually drops an f-bomb, people notice.)

Who did not hear about Rep. Jasmine Crockett calling Rep. Marjorie Taylor Green, “Bleach blonde, bad built, butch body?" When things like that go viral, we get a critical mass of views which is essential for propaganda to work. Even Elon Musk cannot suppress the big ones.

Be sure to only assign negative labels to actual nasty MAGA traits. Do not sully the progressive brand by using name-calling gratuitously just for the sake of name-calling. We want to use propaganda for good, not just to make ourselves feel superior or to be mean.

Likewise, overusing an attack diminishes its effectiveness. Comparing someone to Adolf Hitler or calling them a Nazi used to be very potent, even shocking. Because of overuse, everyone simply brushes it off as hyperbole now, even though it is an apt description of Donald Trump. In fact, the Right have turned it around by ridiculing leftists who toss "Hitler” into a discussion.

• Bandwagon effect:

  Propaganda can try to convince people to support a cause by suggesting that "everyone else is doing it".

This tactic will be challenging to use effectively because it works by isolating the MAGAs, by insinuating that they are an outlier. But of course, a prime motivator for MAGAs is their sense of belonging to a massive movement. They are in a cult and they are proud of belonging to it; it is a badge of honor.

Nevertheless, we can still make them feel abnormal. The “weird” attack during the campaign is a good example of this technique. On its own it might not have changed anyone’s opinion, but it got social media views that we can use to distribute our message. The bandwagon effect can help when used as part of our overarching propaganda strategy.

All Together Now

Propaganda can be a tool for good. By not using it, progressives are fighting a misinformation war where MAGA is armed with modern weapons while progressives are still using wooden clubs.

To stay ethical we need to use propaganda only to manipulate people back to the realm of truth and back to traditional American values of compassion, respect, honesty, and altruism.

Think of each of the preceding methods as the battlefield tactics within a propaganda strategy. Each one on its own is not likely to move the needle much. The idea is for all six tactics to be in use by as many progressives as possible, working toward our common goal of restoring American Democracy. Pick the ones that make the most sense for you and your personality.

3. Flood the Information Space

The third MAGA rule is, “Lie about everything so no one knows (or cares) what is real anymore.” In practice, it is one of the six components of propaganda that we just discussed but Trump has used it exponentially more than any other American politician in recent memory.

Trump and the right-wing use overwhelming amounts of lying to create instability and doubt in the public. People are now conditioned to not trust anything they see or read which allows the MAGAs to blame every one of their crimes on “witch hunts” or “left-wing lies,” and their followers have been trained to reflexively and unconditionally believe that it is the Left that is lying.

The extremism gets them attention and clicks which furthers their agenda. As their crazy becomes normalized, they have to get even crazier to be noticed and you end up with truly insane extremists like Reps. Marjorie “Karen” Greene, Mr. Nicholas Mace and former Rep. and accused child sex trafficker, Matt Gaetz.

Progressives are at a severe disadvantage in the information space because the billionaire scammers own or control virtually all of the media and social media corporations. These billionaires support and amplify MAGAs’ misinformation and disinformation on their sites because it is to their financial benefit.

Clearly we do not want to sink to MAGA’s level where everything (or anything) we say is a lie. We can however use a variant of MAGA Rule 3, which is to flood the information space with our own message. To do this, we first need to support progressive voices and amplify each others’ messages. We are not in competition with one another for views; we are all teammates helping the Progressives win. If you see clever or persuasive liberal content, amplify it to your own audience. Always credit where you got it from so that people can follow the source and we can expand the progressive social network.

Second, we need to support left-leaning or centrist media and content organizations that are independent of the billionaires and the corporations. Follow, retweet and repost independent journalists and commentators, both big (MTM) and small (Political Flare, yours truly, GOP Jesus).

Finally, to overcome the Right’s critical mass, we need to create a new, independent organization that provides tools and support for progressive politicians, media, and independent sites that are fighting for democracy. This is probably the most important thing we can do. We talk about this in detail in Step 5 of this series.

4. Attack With Emotional Triggers

Trump and other MAGA politicians use cultural trigger issues that they know will energize their base and enrage progressives, both of which serve their purpose.

On their side, the MAGA chuds amplify a hot-button issue while ignoring the truth even when the truth makes it clear they are working to their own detriment.

Meanwhile, the fact that the amplified content “owns the libs” gives the MAGAs a feeling of power and a sense of satisfaction. While we are responding (even ridiculing) them for how dumb they are, we are not tackling the underlying MAGA objective.

Advantage: Trump.

People operate from a place of emotion which often wins out over reason. We can trigger that same emotional response but use it for good, not for evil as Trump does.

Our objective with this tactic is the same as the MAGAs’: energize our base by aggressively fighting back while getting our message in front of as many eyeballs as possible. Unfortunately, controversy, not substance is what sells in today’s world and while it might be distasteful, we can use controversy and emotion to sell our substance.

Example: “Musk is Ending Social Security!”

Social Security is a good example of a hot-button issue that can trigger an emotional response in everyone including Trump voters. They truly do not believe that Trump and Musk will cut or eliminate Social Security because Trump himself has said he will “not touch” it:"

“Social Security will not be touched, it will only be strengthened,” Trump said during a Feb. 7th news conference when asked if there are any limits placed on what Elon Musk, who heads (or does not head) DOGE, can examine.

However, Trump added that he would “weed out” undocumented people whom he claimed were utilizing the program.

“We have illegal immigrants on Social Security and we’re going to find out who they are and take them off… we’re not going to stand for that.”

Trump is a master at having it both ways. First he lies and says they won’t touch it, but in his very next breath he says they actually will touch it, but only to “weed out” illegal recipients (which mostly do not exist). The latter excuse gives DOGE and Musk an opening to go into the Social Security Administration, allegedly just to find these imaginary undocumented people who are defrauding the American taxpayers. While they’re in there, the cuts that they promised would not happen actually do happen of course, but by then it is too late for anyone to stop them.

They do this repeatedly, in different ways, blaming any cuts they make on “waste fraud and abuse.” The chuds believe them (when has Trump ever lied to them?) because at an instinctual, emotional level, regardless of facts or truth, they just know that all the immigrants have been stealing from their Social Security for years.

Where did they get that idea? From Trump’s own relentless attacks on immigrants of course.

We can turn this issue back on them by appealing to people’s genuine fear of losing their Social Security. Create content that accuses Musk and Trump of attacking Social Security. Leave the context out and simplify the message. Boil it down to Musk and DOGE are ending Social Security! It helps to blame it on Musk because he is not Trump and many MAGAs dislike and distrust him. He is also just… weird and easily unlikable. Only 34% of people approve of Musk as shown in this Washington Post-Ipsos opinion poll from February.

Progressive content does not have to be 100% true to be effective. It merely has to point to the truth that the billionaire scammers are ripping off the country for their own benefit.

Here is an example from my feed of this tactic in practice:

In my reply, I give voice to the thought in billionaire Lutnick’s brain. My account is labeled as satire so anyone who bothers to look will realize that I am not always literal but that is not necessary for our purposes. Sure, I (obviously) made up the Lutnick quote, but the billionaire scammers’ true objective is to end entitlement programs including Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid so there is tax-cut money that can flow to their corporations. They have said so themselves.

I linked to this earlier post in my response to Aaron Rupar above. In this post, Lutnick’s original quote that Medicaid and Medicare are “wrong” is authentic:

I worked to spread the original Lutnick post as much as I could and even with my small X account (only 18k followers), and going up against Musk’s shadow-banning of progressive content, this post has had over 142k views to date.

The lesson here is that we can overcome right-wing social-media biases if we create content that strikes a nerve, and that evokes an emotional response so that it is amplified by both sides. By bombarding people with these messages, the truth will start to sink in and slowly, public opinion will shift away from the MAGA elites.

Using Negative Attacks

The sad truth is that negative attacks work better than positive, uplifting messages. Psychologically, negative emotions are generally more potent than positive emotions. There are several ways that progressives can take advantage of this.

We can take MAGA’s positive catch-phrases, like “waste fraud and abuse” and re-use them in negative attacks. Create content accusing Trump and his agencies of fraud and abuse. Accuse DOGE of abuse in slashing programs or agencies that MAGAs cherish, like Medicare.

One caveat: MAGAs would likely respond with pride and satisfaction about DOGE abuses in things they are convinced are Leftist such as USAID spending. So those attacks might backfire and should be avoided or directed more at progressives to motivate them.

Another example would be to hit Trump on his excessive vacation days spent golfing, and the wasteful spending associated with overpriced Secret Service rooms at his own properties; call it fraud. Again, create content that does not simply state facts (“The government paid $1 million dollars for Secret Service hotel rooms while Trump played golf.”) The MAGAs don’t care. Appeal to their emotions whenever possible. (“Trump caught playing golf again instead of meeting fallen soldiers returning home in caskets at Dover.”)

The MAGAs have successfully turned progressive positives into negative attacks with terms like “DEI” and “CRT.” Both terms, when used by Republicans, are coded language for the n-word and the implication that supporting diversity means hiring less-qualified individuals. MAGAs are saying that hiring the Black person or the lesbian woman because of who they are, because of their identity, makes them less qualified than the white male who would “obviously” have otherwise gotten the job. It speaks to their racism (again, an emotional issue) without having to come right out and say it explicitly.

The Left has also done this to a certain extent with the term, “MAGA” which is used as a pejorative on the Left. We successfully used other negative labels, like “weird” during the Harris campaign, which happened organically and went viral. We need more of this. A lot more.

It is important to use highly-effective attack words (“incompetent,” “dementia”) or simple phrases like “waste fraud and abuse.” Keep it simple. Find slogans. The advantage of having millions of progressive citizens who are active on social media is that we can scrape data to see what is working and then feed what works back into the information space. More on this in Step 5.

Using Trump’s Emotions Against Him

Trump’s greatest strength is also his greatest weakness. He is a sociopathic narcissist who is incapable of feeling empathy for other human beings because he literally cares only about himself. That allows him to do things that a normal human being would be ashamed of which has allowed him to succeed even after incidents like the 2016 Access Hollywood “grab them by the pussy” tape.

The flip side of his narcissism is his insecurity around anyone upstaging or backstabbing him.

Progressive should create content that undermines Trump’s trust in those around him. Which cabinet secretaries are talking themselves up rather than kissing Trump’s ass? Which House members are angling to run for president? Which Senators are RINOs who say bad things about Trump in private? Which White House officials are leaking negative drama to the press?

An example of this tactic is the “President Musk” theme which likely drives Trump crazy if he knows about it. It does not appear to have caused a rift yet because Trump’s ego is swollen by the idea of the world’s richest man kissing up to him. We have to play the long game; the pressure might eventually work.

Again, feel free to stretch the truth or invent your own. Use satire and parody to stoke suspicion. The goal is to divide and conquer MAGA. We want to create discord, distrust and chaos within the administration, within Congress, and within the MAGA movement to make them all less effective at destroying America.

Every time a Republican goes against Trump, highlight it, amplify it and ridicule him for being unable to keep his party in line

Truthfully, the Trump Thin-Skin Tactic will probably only work if we can get it on a channel we know he watches like Fox News or Newsmax, or have it come from someone who has already gotten under his skin like Bill Kristol. Trump is not following most of us ordinary folks on social media, so this is a job for an AOC and others who have her level of access to mainstream media and huge social media audiences.

What Next?

These MAGA Rules take time and practice to master. They are distasteful and do not work for every resistor’s personality nor for every politician’s image or brand. Working together by supporting each other’s messages, by amplifying each other’s content, we can start to change the information space in our favor. It does not hurt that Trump and Musk are already hurting everyone, including their own followers and voters. That is an opportunity for us to reach them.

President Trump announces 50% tariffs on Canadian fentanyl and Mexican cocaine, effective April 2, 2025.

President Trump, Elon Musk and Tom Homan invited reporters into the Oval Office this morning to announce the new “tariffing” on imported drugs.

“Today we are liberating Americans by tariffing [sic] the value of this horrible and deadly drug in order to make it more costly to distribute and buy,” President Trump said. “The cartels in Congress have never been hit so hard as we’re hitting them, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. Tremendous libels.”

Trump also apparently announced a new national holiday.

What It Means

Drug smugglers who are caught at the border by Water Board Czar Tom Homan’s crack TSA agents will levy the drug tariff at the port of entry before allowing smugglers to continue on their way. Homan called this Trump’s “Fund & Release” strategy.

“With the help of DOGE we will ensure that these massive funds quickly and more importantly, efficientyly make their way into the hands of President Trump,” Homan said. “It is vitally important that the cash keeps flowing after President Trump turn the spigot on.

“Oh yeah, and Make America Great Again,” he added after glancing at President Trump who was watching him speak.

President Trump said that he has big plans for his new Fund & Release tariff program and the cash it brings in.

“We’re gonna use the money to make America so great again,” Trump said. “By letting all the trans do it in the bathroom instead of in the bushes where no one has to see them, the Democrats have allowed Fentanyl to get out of hand. The Republicans and Elon Musk and I have reversed that course, strongly and quickly. Elon, such a great man by the way, so kind and really caring when you talk to him, a great father, and he actually gives the best back rubs, I bet you didn’t know that.”

Trump paused for an uncomfortably long time while gazing at Musk who stood nearby in some kind of clown costume as reporters in the Oval Office looked at one another questioningly.

“Anyway, they tell me he uses much more than anyone else because he’s on that Keto Diet,” Trump continued after taking a moment to compose himself. “Personally I love my Big Macs too much, but he can take it because he has the body and mind of a 12-year old. He singlehandedly takes so much off the market, we’re really grateful, very proud of him.

Elon Musk beamed mightily and energetically strode back and forth behind the President during his monologue, but he did not respond. Musk stopped periodically to stare without blinking at different reporters, before jerking into motion again.

“Major additional progress is being made with these drug tariffs which are so great, don’t you think?” Trump continued. “So much money, we won’t even know what to do with it all. Don’t let the cartels have a Victory. They have to pay just like the other Mexicans, also the Iranians. Cause otherwise it would be devastating for my Super PAC, ‘Again Make America Great Again Again’ and, far more importantly, for the United States. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Democrats Respond

When reporters asked Democratic House Minority Leader Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (Patriot, NY) for comment, he replied, “Grampa said what now?”

The first course correction that progressives need to make is to commit to what we believe in. What are our core principles?

Democrats spend a lot of their messaging being “woke” which in and of itself is not a bad thing. Woke is simply an awareness of social inequalities such as racial injustice, sexism, and the denial of LGBTQ rights. However, over time, many Democrats became self-important caricatures of themselves which allowed MAGA chuds to weaponize the very thing that makes us morally superior to MAGAs in the first place.

For a prime example of the opening Democrats gave the GOP, take a look at the preamble to the Democratic Party’s 2024 Platform:

Seriously? This is the first thing you read in the platform?

No offense to Native Americans and their history, but putting nonsense like this at the top of your party platform is just asking for the rightwing blowhards to ridicule you for “honoring native communities” when modern-day Americans are struggling to pay rent or find a job (or whatever). As George Bush would have said, “It’s the price of eggs, stupid.”

The Democrats’ smug and reflexive woke attempts to pander to every tiny subgroup became live ammo for assaults from Fox News, OAN, Newsmax and all the rightwing social media grifters, and it is one hundred percent self-inflicted. Why are we giving them big fat juicy gifts like this? Why did we make it so easy for them?

These self-owns detract from our core message of equal treatment for all and gives Trump and his MAGA chuds the ability to fight us on their terms, not ours. They instantly and continuously put Democrats on the defensive. In a war, you can be right (and dead) or you can recognize the tactical reality and work within that reality to advance your goals–and stay alive to fight another day.

Core Progressive Principles

The Democratic Party platform is 91 pages long and while most of it is inarguably the right way to approach the world, we can simplify what progressives stand for with just two core principles:

1. Equal opportunity and equal treatment for all

2. Personal liberty with shared responsibility

Think about it. Any plank in the platform that is not consistent with one or both of these core principles should be removed. If there is a conflict between different planks, go back to the core principles to resolve them.

One of the most basic tenets of effective messaging is simplify!

MAGA: An Example in Principles

The GOP has their own core principle1: “Make America Great Again.” All of their messaging relates back to this core MAGA principle. It is simple and to-the-point even if it is essentially meaningless. Millions of Americans instantly relate to it which is why it works.

Why is America not great according to MAGA? Because of the immigrants, the minorities, the trans folks, the women getting abortions. Because of everyone else. People love to blame others for their problems and Trump, like most authoritarians, is an expert at tapping into today’s zeitgeist. He relentlessly tells people how miserable they are and how awful the country is, and then he gives them someone (else) to blame for the misery he just convinced them they all have.

MAGA is a morally vile principle that appeals to people’s racism, sexism, and general bigotry and victimhood, but it nevertheless is one that works really well for the GOP. When people see the world changing (as it inevitably does) and ostensibly leaving them behind, they want to blame someone. This is human nature.

All Trump has to do is repeatedly hit that one simple MAGA principle every time he speaks while Democrats flail about trying to explain 57 different planks in nine different categories to voters. Because MAGA is so on-point and so simple, no one ever talks about their true agenda.

You see the problem?

Another way to frame our two progressive principles is this:

1. Everyone, including people who don’t vote for us or who do not agree with us or who have more or less money than us, have the same rights and deserve the same opportunities. In other words, be fair.

2. Do what makes you happy but do not be a dick or do harm to your neighbors. In other words, be kind.

Let’s look at a sample picked from the platform at random of how this might work in the real world.

Gaza: An Example in Principles

The Israel / Gaza conflict is a good example of how this should work for progressives. Presidential candidate Kamala Harris ran two different ads and two different messages that depended on the demographics where the ads ran.

In Michigan, with its large Muslim-American population, her ad talked about how she supported the relief efforts in Gaza, and she said she "will not be silent." The ad shows Harris saying, "What has happened in Gaza in the past nine months is devastating. We cannot allow ourselves to become numb to the suffering.”

Meanwhile, one of her Pennsylvania ads showed a clip from Harris’s DNC speech where she said, "Let me be clear, I will always stand up for Israel's right to defend itself, and I will always ensure Israel's ability to defend itself." The part of her speech where she advocates for peace in Gaza was not included in the ad.

So which is it? Did she support the civilians in Gaza who are being killed by Israeli bombs? Or did she support the Prime Minister Netanyahu and his Israeli government that is defending Israel from Hamas’s terror attacks?

To be fair, different groups have different priorities and candidates naturally want to speak to their issues. But instead of having a single, principled position, Harris came across as equivocating, of trying to have it both ways. Trump pounced on the perception of being wishy washy and flip flopping.

Perhaps voters would have responded better to a message that reflects our core principle of treating everyone equally and consistently:

Of course the Mideast situation is not simple. Israel claims the only way to prevent future attacks is to eliminate Hamas entirely. There are hostages to rescue and an effective way to secure the border is a complex and difficult question. But the point here is that by being consistent and treating both sides as having done wrong but also having legitimate concerns and needs, progressives can show voters and the world that we are honest, consistent, and trying to do the right thing for everyone without pandering and shifting with the political winds.

Would this message have angered some voters? Sure, especially on the fringes where the loudmouths are. However, most people respond to political courage and honesty far more positively than they do to politicians that are constantly trying to thread the needle.

We need our leaders and politicians to be more principled.

A Message for MAGAs

When I say that we should treat everyone fairly and equally, I do not mean to imply that we let Trump, Musk or other MAGAs go unanswered. When Republicans go against these two principles then we attack that. Every progressive social media post, every TikTok and YouTube short, every TV segment or main-stream media article should be calling out how Republicans stifle opportunity and equality, how they are destroying the economy and the middle class while Democrats lift up everyone; including Republican voters. Be creative so our content goes viral even while it is suppressed by the billionaires who control the social media platforms.

These messages are not directed at the base; they already vote for Democrats. These messages are directed at independents and MAGAs, who will not convert because of any one post or tweet. It is the underlying signal amongst the MAGA noise that will eventually penetrate and start to have an effect.

We will examine the details of messaging in another article so for now, whenever you interact politically with others, frame everything you say and do around these two core principles. Remember to simplify. Voters will start to recognize that progressives are on everyone’s side, in contrast to the billionaire scammers like Musk and Trump.

People will start to shift back to progressives over time as we combine our principled approach and messaging with exposure of the growing damage to voters’ everyday lives as Musk rampages through the federal government. This is already starting to happen as Trump voters and veterans are fired, as MAGAs lose Medicaid coverage, as Musk invades Social Security with the intent to privatize (and profit from it), and so on.

Keep the pressure on, and keep a singular focus on being principled and we will win.

Elon Musk is using his ownership of Twitter to bombard the social media space with MAGA propaganda. It is critical that we recognize it and fight back with facts and ridicule. Here is one obvious example of his propaganda machine working at peak efficiency.

1. One of the big X propaganda accounts with 2.1 million followers makes a breathless post that starts in all-caps (screaming for attention) and includes an alleged Musk quote:

   🚨🇺🇸ELON: 40% OF SOCIAL SECURITY CALLS ARE FROM FRAUDSTERS—DOGE IS FIXING IT

   “They steal people’s Social Security. They call in, pretend to be retirees, and reroute the money to themselves.”

   

   Sounds scary, right?

2. Musk then quote-tweets the original propaganda post to his 218 million followers:

   It’s crazy. Retirees are having their money stolen!

   

   Note there is no proof that anyone’s money is actually being stolen. Just an accusation following his own original claim about “40% of calls” being fraudulent. Literally the only source for any of this bombastic claim is Elon Musk himself.

3. The MAGA horde amplify the propaganda further by retweeting Musk on their own timelines. In short order millions of people see the claim.

   
   The MAGA messaging is that Social Security is being massively ripped off by “fraudsters” and DOGE is in there doing only good work by “fixing it.” In other words, there is nothing nefarious about DOGE digging into hundreds of millions of Americans personal and financial data.

   
   Notice that Musk never says how many of the calls are actually successful at redirecting retiree funds to the criminals. This is an intentional omission because the truth is that it’s negligible. Even Musk’s Grok refutes his claims:

   1. The 40% figure is a lie:

      However, this 40% figure appears exaggerated or misinterpreted—official SSA reports suggest improper payments (which include fraud, errors, and other issues) are less than 1% of total payouts, with fraud being a subset of that.

   2. The actual losses to the SSA from all forms of fraud (not just phone-in bank redirection fraud), including false disability claims and so on, is approximately $100 million. That is not an insignificant amount of money, but SSA pays out $1.379 trillion in benefits to 67.1 million beneficiaries so $100m is a relative drop in the bucket at .007%.

   3. Successful imposter fraud almost never happens:

      The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) provides some related context: in 2018, they reported over 35,000 complaints about SSA imposter scams, with losses totaling $10 million, averaging about $1,500 per victim.

All these facts are great, but look at how long it takes to refute Musk’s simple propaganda lie.

This is how propaganda works.

Making false claims alongside legitimate, but misinterpreted facts (which in this case are also a lie) allows the association to form in the listeners’ brains. The lie becomes true for them because A) they trust the source (Musk) and B) they feel smart about themselves because they brilliantly made the “logical” jump from the 40% lie to the even bigger “retirees are having their money stolen!” lie.

How do we fight back?

It is not easy, especially since Musk owns one of the largest social media networks in the world. He uses X to amplify his propaganda lies while simultaneously shadow-banning dissident accounts like my @GOPJesusUSA account and all the other, even larger left-wing accounts.

Nevertheless, progressives do have a voice. Respond with facts and/or with ridicule or contempt. Do not let the propaganda go unanswered. Our replies will not be seen as much as the original propaganda, but at least we can get the truth out there.

Dissidents to Defeat MAGA

The MAGA movement needs to be killed. It is a cancer that has infected our nation and we need to eradicate it as aggressively as you would try to wipe out an actual cancer that is about to kill you.

Democratic politicians know this but they seem to be flailing—again—at coming up with a viable strategy or in some case, the courage1 to do what needs to be done. Meanwhile Donald Trump and Elon Musk are actively and aggressively destroying and looting the country from within.

Trump wants us to think that his self-coup is inevitable and that he is unstoppable, like he has a mandate to do anything he wants. He repeatedly and wantonly violates the law and the U.S. Constitution, knowing that the courts are either too slow or in many cases unwilling to stop him. He has gotten away with every crime he has ever committed, and he knows he will never face any consequences; he has no guardrails.

When a judge does rule against Trump’s illegal actions, as US District Judge James Boasberg has done in the El Salvador rendition case, MAGA viciously attacks the judge personally with virulent force and across the media spectrum. They explicitly try to make the story about the judge rather than about Trump’s unconstitutional actions. It is an impressive propaganda machine at its very best.

Still, we are not powerless. As Americans and as progressives (or really, as not MAGAs), here are five steps that we can do now to save America from the pestilent open sores that are Trump, Musk, (and Putin):

1. Govern by principles

2. Play by MAGA’s new rules

3. Support democracy’s fighters

4. Build and leverage a progressive media ecosystem

5. Build an independent progressive support organization

These five steps form a blueprint to defeat MAGA. We will explore the details of these steps over the next week or so in this special six-part series.

The advice in this series is directed at all American patriots, not just members of the Democratic Party. That includes independents and the few remaining ethical Republicans. This is a fight for the soul of our country. We do not have time for purity tests or labels.

What Is So Wrong With the Status Quo?

Many Democratic elites are going to dislike what I say in this series because I am attacking their status at the top of the party. Assuming they even read this, many might resist these ideas because they need to change or lose the access to power that the status quo imparts on them. That might almost be a bigger problem than Trump.

Nevertheless, sometimes people have to face a harsh reality in order to move forward and the cold truth is the Democratic Party is a loser party. Democrats lost the White House, the Senate, the House and the Supreme Court. The federal government is being dismantled by Elon Musk’s DOGE and our country is losing massive amounts of expertise and institutional knowledge that will take decades to restore. Trump commits illegal and unconstitutional acts every single day with near impunity.

America’s reputation internationally is in the gutter, especially now that Trump has openly attacked and abandoned a democratic Ukraine. He is aligning the U.S. with authoritarian dictators in Moscow and Beijing and our government will not be trusted by other democratic countries for a very long time.

Is the status quo working for progressives?

The brutal truth is that all of this damage was self-inflicted. It was in many ways the Democrats’ own fault: they lost to an insane, narcissistic, serial sex-abusing, compulsive liar and rapist who is a lifelong criminal and a convicted felon.

How does anyone lose to a man who is so fatally deficient, so incredibly flawed?

Mostly you do it by failing to recognize and adapt to the 21st century’s new social construct. You do it by being insular, self-centered and so worried about not offending anyone that you end up offending everyone. You do it by constantly fretting about what your internal polls say rather than what real people are telling you they need.

You also do it by outsourcing policy and politics to paid consultants and polling firms, and then trusting those sources when their goals ($) are clearly not aligned with voters’ goals (family and country).

Democrats lost in part because many of its leaders did nothing to address the needs of everyday Americans. Democrats lost because they became mired in identity politics and the inevitably futile attempt to pander to every micro subset of the Democrats’ base because that’s what their focus groups and polls told them to do.

Sadly, many Democratic politicians are continuing their ineffective and dated tactics because they still think they need to be cautious about “expending their political capital” (as if they even have any.)

All of this needs to change if progressives want to win again. It is going to take a new way of thinking. It will be painful and it will take a lot of courage, a lot of work, a lot of people, and a lot of money which has to come from somewhere.

Mostly, it is going to take a lot of fight.

Trump and Musk have a nearly insurmountable advantage in this war. They have access to billionaires’ funds and they have a huge head start. The battlefield is rigged because MAGAs control all of the levers of power. It will likely take a decade or more to fix the fascist mess they are building and the damage they have inflicted on government institutions and the rule of law.

But it will never happen at all if we never start.

Why listen to a guy named GOP Jesus?

You might ask, why should you listen to the writer of an anonymous semi-satirical social media account? That is a valid question. Literally no one knows who I am so let me share a little here.

I have never worked in politics3. The most I have been paid for political writing was about $25 one month on X, after subtracting the $8 monthly fee. (Oh, and I have ONE awesome paid subscriber here on Substack; hi Tyler!)

My views are my own and come from decades of just living and observing. I am not young but I am not as old as the real Jesus. When I was young, I was actually an insufferably naive, fiscally conservative Republican because that was what my father was and it was all I knew.

Then I went to college and learned about the real world. I figured out that the GOP, starting at least as far back as Ronald Reagan, was really the party of corporate interests who saw regular Americans as expendable sources of cheap labor and periodically of votes. My distrust of corporations with their unitary focus on profits fed a growing and healthy skepticism of the GOP.

Republican politicians have never cared about anyone or anything except their own moneyed interests. They hate today’s liberals and they hate today’s MAGAs even more (joke’s on them!).

Granted, many Democratic politicians are much the same. You generally don’t get elected President or to Congress without being ambitious and cutthroat but Democrats are objectively the party with policies that raise up everyone and not just the billionaires, their shareholders, and kinda sorta the white GOP voters at the expense of everyone else.

I became a Democrat before I graduated from college and I have never looked back.

I started my GOP Jesus Twitter account a couple of years ago to highlight the hypocrisy of the GOP and their abuse of religion in pursuit of power. I thought that by exposing their fake Christianity that authentic Christians and other people of faith (or ethics for the atheists and agnostics) would abandon Trump and the grifters that latched on to him.

Obviously I was wrong. When someone is in a cult, logic and reason cannot penetrate the dense fog they live in. We saw that in 2016 when Trump won the first time. To be fair, I thought there was no way Trump would win again with 34 felony convictions and the classified documents charges and everything else that had come out.

Like myself, Democratic leaders and Biden did not learn the lesson this time around either. Rather than fighting back during Biden’s term, Democrats and the administration dithered and hemmed and hawed and wrung their hands while pontificating about “bipartisanship” and a “return to norms.”

Incredibly, Democrats gave Trump a path back to the White House by not going after his criminality quickly, forcefully and aggressively.4 Let’s face it, Trump could not have run for President if he had been in prison where he clearly belongs.

So here we are.

How to Read and an Appeal For Your Support

Which brings us back to the present and the five things that I think progressives need to do in order to kill the MAGA movement:

1. Govern by principles

2. Play by MAGA’s new rules

3. Support democracy’s fighters

4. Build and leverage a progressive media ecosystem

5. Build an independent progressive support organization (Most important step, coming soon!)

My original idea was to write a single article around this blueprint but as I worked on it, the bigger, and more ambitious my ideas became and the full series grew out of that over the past month.

All of my past articles have been free to everyone, as is this introduction to the Organizing Blueprint to Defeat MAGA series. I am working hard to increase my subscribers and hopefully to gain paying subscribers which will help me to keep doing this (I am unemployed, so every little bit helps.)

At the same time, I do not believe in locking content behind paywalls because not everyone has the money to access every writer with good ideas, and also because resisting fascism is far more important than profit.

Mark Kelly is a United States Navy Captain (ret.) who currently serves as the senior U.S. Senator from Arizona. He flew combat missions during the Gulf War in Iraq and he piloted two Space Shuttle missions and was the Commander of two more including the final mission of the Space Shuttle Endeavor.

He is the husband of Gabby Giffords who preceded him into politics, serving in the U.S. House of Representatives until she was shot in the head by an extremist during an assassination attempt and mass shooting near Tucson during an event with constituents.

In other words, the man is a bona fide American hero who along with Ms. Gifford has given his life to serving our great country.

Meanwhile, there’s billionaire scammer Elon Musk whose daddy (like Trump’s) gave him millions of dollars to go be “successful.” He is the richest man in the world and yet he whines like a petulant toddler that “people are mean” to him.

He is so insecure that he fantasizes about himself as a heterosexual alpha male who is a “deadly threat” to the “woke mind parasite,” whatever the hell that is. As for his claim that his companies “make great products,” well, maybe not so much.

A recent study determined that Tesla drivers die at twice the rate of the national average (5.8 per billion miles vs 2.6 per billion miles).

“The study was conducted on model year 2018–2022 vehicles, and focused on crashes between 2017 and 2022 that resulted in occupant fatalities. Tesla vehicles have a fatal crash rate of 5.6 per billion miles driven, according to the study. The average fatal crash rate for all cars in the United States is 2.8 per billion vehicle miles driven.”1

Some of them apparently also just randomly catch on fire.

Which brings us back to Senator Kelly who owns a Tesla that he uses to drive to work in Washington D.C. In a video, he announced that he was selling his Tesla because it “kind of turns out Elon is an asshole.”

Sen. Kelly’s video has since gone viral with over ten million views on X because it strikes a chord in all decent human beings. Yes! Elon Musk is really just an asshole!

House Republicans included draconian cuts to Medicaid, veterans and other federal programs in their budget. The government runs out of money on Friday, Mar 14th so the GOP crafted a Continuing Resolution to fund the government for six months. This gives them time to force their budget cuts on the American people using reconciliation so that Senate Democrats are powerless to stop them. The CR also allows Elon Musk and his D.O.G.E. tweens six more months to wreak havoc and chaos by illegally firing federal employees, cutting funds, and closing down entire departments.

Seems like a good time for Democrats to band together and say enough is enough, right? That is exactly what House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries did with his caucus. All but one Democrat voted against the CR in the House which did not stop it from moving forward but sent a message that Democrats would not be complicit in destroying America.

The CR moved to the Senate and on Wednesday, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York said that Republicans “do not have the votes” to pass the CR. In the Senate, 60 votes are required for cloture which then allows a measure to be voted up or down by a simple majority.

Democrats cheered. A government shutdown hurts everyone, but Trump and Musk are hurting even more people with their slash-and-burn partisan attack on democracy.

One day later, Schumer surrendered. "While the Republican bill is very bad, the potential for a shutdown has consequences for America that are much much worse. For sure, the Republican bill is a terrible option," he said. "It is not a clean CR. It is deeply partisan. It doesn't address far too many of this country's needs, but I believe allowing Donald Trump to take even much more power in a government shutdown is a far worse option."

Democrats were understandably outraged at Schumer’s Surrender. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gave voice to what many House Democrats felt: "There are members of Congress who have won Trump-held districts in some of the most difficult territories in the United States, who walked the plank and took innumerable risks in order to defend the American people ... just to see some Senate Democrats even consider acquiescing to Elon Musk, I think it is a huge slap in the face and I think that there's a wide sense of betrayal."

Thousands of others took to social media to criticize Schumer’s total capitulation. You have to give him credit. He has done something that very few politicians have ever accomplished which is to be hated by nearly everyone in both parties.

Schumer’s Defense

Why would Schumer give up the one piece of leverage that Democrats have? He put forth two reasons:

1. A shutdown plays into Trump and Musk’s hands, allowing them to continue their DOGEY attack on the federal government.

2. A shutdown would be a political gift to Trump because it would distract from his “awful agenda.”

How does someone survive in politics for so long and yet be so completely wrong?

First, Elon Musk and D.O.G.E. staff are federal employees. They cannot work if the government is shut down. If Trump claims they are “essential,” Democrats can sue because clearly D.O.G.E is not essential.

Schumer also claims that Trump might not bring back all the furloughed employees, but isn’t that the point of having leverage? You force the GOP to the negotiating table and you force them to stop the cutting and burning or the government does not re-open.

Second, “Donald Trump is hoping for a shutdown, because it will distract from their true agenda: delivering massive tax cuts to the rich paid for on the backs on American families,” Schumer said on X.”

“Right now, Donald Trump owns the chaos in the government. He owns the chaos in the stock market,” he added. “In a shutdown, we would be busy fighting with Republicans over which agencies to reopen, which to keep closed, instead of debating the damage Donald Trump’s agenda is causing the American people.”

This is flat-out wrong. A shutdown and the fight to re-open would highlight Trump’s awful agenda and the chaos he and Musk are causing. It would bring enormous pressure on the Trump Administration to agree to rein in the idiots at D.O.G.E. so the government can re-open because a shutdown hurts MAGA voters too! And they, more than anyone else, need to feel the pain because they’re the ones who got us into this mess and they’re the only ones who can get us out.

Chuck Schumer needs to retire or be primaried (hello AOC?). As I' said before, we need leaders like Mitch McConnell who know how to get in the mud and fight for us. If Feckless Chuck or anyone else does not have the guts or the spine to stand up to Trump, then get out of our way. Because America’s future as a Democracy is at stake and we do not have time for geriatric weaklings who obey in advance.

In this and forthcoming articles, we will look at ways to block Trump, Musk (and the billionaire scammers hiding behind them) where we can and slow them down where we cannot. In other words, we will explore ways that patriotic Americans can work together to defeat the MAGA enemy.

There are at least five categories of Opposition:

1. Elected Democrats

2. Career civil servants

3. Donors to the Opposition

4. Media and social media influencers

5. Everyone else

We will talk about what each group can do in this and the next few articles in this series. First up: our elected Democrats.

Elected Democrats

Democrats are our first line of defense because they are literally on the frontline, facing off across the aisle with Republicans who are so afraid of Trump and Musk that they have capitulated completely and will rubber-stamp Trump’s nominees and everything else he decides to do.

While we generally assume the Opposition are all Democrats or independents, we welcome anyone, from any party, who believes the law still matters and who will oppose Trump and his illegal agenda. Everything we say in this article applies to them as well.

Much has been written already about the failings of the GOP and we will not rehash all that here. The Republican Party has been completely taken over by the MAGA movement and there is no redemption, and no mercy for them.

Republican Senators and Congresspeople are the enemies of Democracy. They are enemies of the United States.

That might seem harsh, but this is a war for the soul of America. The time for bipartisanship, for compromise, for Congressional niceties and decorum? To our detriment, Democrats have been trying that approach since Obama and Republicans have been laughing at us behind our backs the entire time. We are so far past that point.

Our First Challenge: Democrats

If it is not obvious, the vast majority of incumbent Democrats did not rise to the threat that Trump posed. His electoral victory was as much a Democratic collapse as it was a win for a thoroughly unredeemable cretin like Trump.

Democrats in Congress need to stop capitulating. They need to stop cowering in fear and find the courage to stand up and be heard. They need to use every tool at their disposal to slow down or obstruct Trump’s agenda.

Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, they are not yet doing any of that.

Trump Nominee Test

Trump’s unqualified, corrupt cabinet nominees were the first test for Democrats and only a handful showed us that they understand the gravity of the situation our country is in. According to Ballotpedia, these eight Senators voted No on 11 out of 12 Trump nominees who have come before the Senate as of Feb 5, 2025:

The Senators listed above are heroes and clearly understand the stakes. Let them know you appreciate them, even if you are not from their state or district.

Meanwhile, these four Democrats actually voted for eight of Trump’s nominees:

Lawmakers do not operate in an ideologically pure environment of course and they cannot always vote their conscience even if they want to. They have multiple priorities, the biggest of which is winning future elections and keeping their positions of power.

Both Pennsylvania and Arizona are swing states so Fetterman and Gallego might almost be excused for taking a more centrist path but there is absolutely no excuse or Hasssan and Shaheen to ever support Trump. New Hampshire has voted for a Republican president only once in the last 32 years, and that one time was 24 years ago. It should not be difficult for Senators to win blue states.

ACTION ITEM – Check how your Senators are voting and bombard their offices with phone calls and letters telling them to vote NO on every remaining Trump nominee.

Obstruct EVERYTHING (Like the GOP Do)

When Barrack Obama was elected in 2008, Sen. Mitch McConnell (MAGA–KY), the Republican majority leader at the time had one goal in mind and it was not bipartisanship or working together to find common ground for the good of all Americans. His singular objective was for Republicans to regain power and for McConnell himself to get re-elected after Democrats swept the White House and both houses of Congress.

Sound familiar?

The situations are not entirely analogous since Obama and Democrats swept into power with a decisive mandate, whereas most people voted for someone other than Trump. He has no mandate even if he constantly bleats that he does.

Nevertheless, McConnell took a no-holds-barred approach to fighting Obama and the Democrats’ agenda. Republicans viciously attacked the Affordable Care Act even though it made health care available to millions of Americans for the first time, including their own constituents.

They did not hide the fact that they would happily rip health care away from Americans simply because it was a Democratic success story and even though the bill was largely based on proposals by Republican Mitt Romney (from his time as Massachusetts governor) and the Heritage Foundation, an ultra-conservative hate-group that later brought us Project 2025.

"That means that we can — and should — propose and vote on straight repeal, repeatedly," McConnell said in 2010 after Republicans scored big victories in congressional elections based in part on flooding the public square with lies about Obamacare.

That same year, McConnell famously said, “The single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president.” On its own, his comment is unremarkable; every opposition party wants the other party to lose next time which is fair. But it is indicative of the GOP’s single-minded focus on blocking Democrats who were in power at that time that is relevant to the Opposition today.

Scalia, Ginsburg, and the SCOTUS Theft

After Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia died suddenly, McConnell blocked the Senate from voting on Merrick Garland, Obama’s nominee to replace Antonin Scalia for almost a year before the 2016 election. Neil Gorsuch, Trump’s nominee for the seat, was not confirmed until April, 2017, 409 days, or almost 14 months after Scalia died.

Three years later, on May 28, 2019 McConnell was asked at an event, “Should a Supreme Court justice die next year, what will your position be on filling that spot?”

“Oh, we’d fill it,” McConnell replied, grinning.

And that is exactly what McConnell did. Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg passed away a mere 47 days before the 2020 presidential election and McConnell, still the Majority Leader, rammed through Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination in record time, sealing a MAGA majority on the Supreme Court for decades to come.

The Lesson

Mitch McConnell is the epitome of a successful resister. He weathered waves of attacks from the Left over his hypocrisy and everything else he did because he knew it would eventually pass. He has repeatedly and cravenly put party and power first and as vile as that is, it has paid off for him and for the GOP over and over again culminating with Donald Trump and Elon Musk taking over the U.S. Government this year.

We are not helpless, just as the GOP was not neutered in 2008. However, Democrats need to pull their heads out of their asses sand and stop pretending the world has not changed. We did not make the new rules. Trump, McConnell and MAGA made the rules and we must throw that back at them whenever they whine about the Opposition’s tactics.

We need to fight back the same way McConnell and the GOP did when they were in the minority or we will never be in power again. Does that mean we have to sacrifice our morality, or break the law, or be grossly unethical?

Not at all.

What it means is we need our Opposition politicians in Congress to use every mechanism of the legislative and judicial systems to obstruct everything Trump and his GOP minions try to do, no matter how trivial or seemingly unimportant.

A million specks of dirt stuck to their hides can add up to a mudslide.

Give them no wins. Give them no positive talking points. Block everything, delay everything. Slow down the workings of Congress using every possible rule you can. Sure, some good things might also end up getting delayed or blocked, but the GOP isn’t really going to be doing anything good at all anyway.

We need high-visibility Democratic governors (with presidential ambitions, ahem) like Gavin Newsom in Caliornia and JB Pritzker in Illinois to use their executive powers to block Trump in the states. Attorneys general should sue the Trump administration for every oppressive action that affects their states even tangentially. And most importantly, they need to publicize their counterpunches far and wide so our message rises above their noise: We do not concede America!

Final Thoughts

McConnell taught us that obstruction is highly effective. The more the GOP struggles to enact their agenda, the more they will appear to be losers. The more frequently MAGA chuds on X or Fox News are whining about another delay caused by a Democrat, the more people will peg Trump as a loser who can’t get things done.

How does this help us? It fires up our base. It’s a way to win even when we are out of power. It shows fight and that is what people desperately want now from Democrats.

It will piss off the MAGAs which means our sides’ actions will dominate the social media cycle. They will complain left and right on X and Fox News and Newsmax and other platforms and that is a good thing, because it gets our message out there!

We do not concede America! (say it 100 times.)

The Biden/Harris loss in this past election proves that just getting things done does not win you elections anymore. Biden was incredibly successful at getting legislation passed and at navigating Trump’s inflation and avoiding a recession. But the people did not care because Trump overwhelmingly co-opted the headlines with lies and conspiracies. (We will talk a lot more about messaging and social media in an upcoming article in this series.)

We can get our side back in power, perhaps as soon as the midterms, but not if Democrats keep doing what they have been doing. If Democratic politicians do not have the courage to stand up and fight, then do what Trump would do: primary them and get people in who will.

The rules were changed by the MAGA crazies. We are in a war. It’s time to start acting like it.

Action Items

Obviously, if you are a Gavin Newsom or an AOC, then you can take direct action.

The remainder of this article is for the rest of us.

Once again, flood your federal legislators’ offices with phone calls and letters telling them to obstruct everything the GOP does. Call daily or weekly. Tell them to file lawsuits. Tell them to use Senate and House process, to use congressional procedure to gum up Trump’s agenda. Tell them to use the filibuster. Tell then to create a shadow government and hold shadow hearings. Tell them to make noise and to constantly call out the hypocrisy and insanity of the GOP on the Congressional floor. Tell them to get it in the record, to be so loud and direct that videos of what you are doing end up all over social media.

Tell Congressional Democrats to sow division and infighting in the GOP ranks. Trump sycophants are falling all over themselves to slavishly get Donald Trump’s attention and praise. Our legislators have the biggest voice, because what they say on the House or Senate floor gets on TV. It gets on TikTok and YouTube and X and Trump sees it. Trump is our Target One because he is weak and insecure. We want him to distrust everyone on his own side.

So tell them they to fling accusations out there about how Rep. X or Senator Y. has gone against Trump or Musk. The accusations do not need to be 100% true because those are the new rules, remember? Accusations simply need to have the ring of truth. They need to be just believable enough. This is how propaganda works.

If you follow me on X or Bluesky, you know what I am talking about; my most viral posts are the satirical posts where people say to themselves, “That can’t be true! Can it? Wait, did Trump really say that?”

This all applies not just at the federal level. Force elected Democrats all up and down the country to do the same wherever the GOP holds power, all the way down to city councils and school boards. Get involved at the local level so your voice is heard and advocate hard for not cooperating with anything the GOP does.

Public pressure on elected officials works. Noise works. There are tens of millions of Americans who cannot stand that Trump and Musk and the rest of the MAGA billionaire scammers are staging a coup against America in plain site.

We can and will, stop them, with our current politicians or with replacements if necessary. LFG!

The same old, same old is not going to cut it. We have—maybe—one more shot at getting rid of the putrid authoritarian MAGA cancer that has infected the United States.

Donald Trump, and his MAGA elites are successfully crushing everything in their path as they scam the American public for profit and power. The first step toward defeating them is understanding, recognizing, and exploiting the techniques they use to manipulate us.

The Trump Playbook

Donald Trump is a narcissist. He cares only about himself, and he has absolutely no shame or moral compass whatsoever. That frees him up to lie, cheat, steal, grift, kill, and then lie some more. Everything is transactional to him – if there is not something in it for him, whether money or power or votes, he will not move an inch for you. Like a toddler, he is impulsive and self-centered, so whatever is most recently in front of his face is going to be what he wants to do.

It does not matter to him if he betrays “friends” (he has no actual friends), or foes. Nothing matters to Donald Trump except Donald Trump.

That is all well-known by now, but it is important context. To defeat such a deeply flawed and corrupt, yet successful man like Trump, we need to recognize the techniques he uses to manipulate people. We need to focus on what is important and disregard what is not important.

Trump does not exist in isolation; there are hundreds of sycophants and wannabe mini-Trumps who have spawned in his orbit. They have infected Congress, state governments, school districts, and with Trump’s return to the Presidency they are now spreading like toxic mold throughout the federal bureaucracy. These parasites have learned to use the same propaganda methods and attacks that Trump has been using to gain power for themselves; call it the MAGA Playbook.

The MAGA Playbook

Trump’s goal is to benefit Donald Trump because at heart, he is a scammer. Scammers thrive when people are not looking at the scam, so Trump makes a lot of noise and sows a lot of chaos to distract the watchers. If you are looking at, and reacting to his latest stupid comment or decision, you are not looking at or reacting to what he is really doing, which is either ripping you off or gaining more power for himself.

It is a very simple but brutally effective technique that has been used by dictators and authoritarian leaders for hundreds of years. Because Trump has no shame or moral backbone, he could not care less if moral people are outraged at his racist or bigoted or violent rhetoric. As long as we are all talking about that, then we are not talking about or noticing that he is purging the FBI, or raiding the Treasury, or illegally letting Elon Musk dismantle the apparatus of government, or weaseling his way out of felony convictions, or violating the Constitution for his own gain.

So he says insane things that will rile up the MAGAs’ emotions like, “The Panama Canal belongs to us, we are going to take it back.” The leftwing media and influencers go into maximum overdrive analyzing and responding to how dangerous that is, how wrong it is, why it is wrong, why it is illegal, what talk like that does to the United States’ reputation, etc etc, ad naseum. It is mostly pointless but it gets them clicks and props up their own social media bona fides even while it changes nothing.

Meanwhile, Trump’s MAGA base laps it up like the good little cultists they are because it strikes an emotional chord in them. It makes them feel strong and powerful just like they perceive Trump to be. It makes them feel superior because they get it, while the “stupid libtards” do not. The chuds1 dutifully (and mindlessly) amplify Trump’s chaos in their X and Facebook echo chambers, unwittingly aiding his scam even when it is to their own detriment.

Example: Trump Tariffs™️

On Saturday February 1st, Trump announced that he was imposting 25% tariffs on nearly all goods imported from Canada, Mexico, and China. Bowing to the realization that energy prices would spike sharply, the Trump Tariff on Canadian energy imports was a lower 10%.

Trump declared a (fake) “national economic emergency” which by law gave him extraordinary powers over the economy. He threatened even higher tariffs if Canada or Mexico retaliated (they did anyway). His (fake) justifications for the tariffs: Canada and China are not doing enough to stop the flow of Chinese fentanyl into the U.S., and Mexico is not doing enough to stop illegal immigration.

Both of these rationales are false red herrings, but that is irrelevant to Trump’s true aims. Trump Tariffs are not about fentanyl or drugs at all. It is a false equivalence tactic that he has used repeatedly on the gullible chuds.

Here is how it works:

Trump ties an emotional heartstring issue (drug overdoses, illegal immigrants, abortion, crime, pedophiles, and so on) to whatever his current scam is so that MAGAs repeat and amplify it for him:

“IF YOU CARE ABOUT STOPPING DRUGS YOU’LL SUPPORT TARIFFS!!!”

“YOU MUST NOT CARE ABOUT THE QUARTER MILLION PEOPLE WHO DIED FROM DRUG OVERDOSES IF YOU’RE AGAINST THE TARIFFS!!!!”

And so on.

In the tariff case, attacking your economic partners and allies is not the way to get them to do more to work harder at stopping drugs or illegal immigrants from crossing into the United States. Canada and Mexico are actually already doing a lot on both of those issues. Trump knows that, he just does not care that it is a lie.

What he really wants is one or both of two things. The first option is more profits for his billionaire scammer buddies which they will get once Canada and Mexico are priced out of our markets.

All U.S. prices will be higher and the billionaires will make more money by selling at just under the tariff-added price. (You think they will keep prices low when there is no foreign competition? Yeah, nope.)

We will all be paying the #TrumpTax which will go straight to the billionaires’ corporate profits and then to the shareholders who are the only winners in this situation.

The second option is a win for Trump’s fragile, thin-skinned ego which is what ultimately happened. Two days after he announced the tariffs, Trump bleated a message that the Trump Tariffs against Mexico would be ended because Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum had agreed to send 10,000 troops to the border.

Trump makes himself out to be the powerful hero while he conveniently does not mention that Biden got the same response from Mexico and all he had to do was ask nicely.

Regardless of what actually transpires, Trump gets to blame Canada and Mexico for starting the whole kerfuffle because if they had only been willing to stop the flow of drugs or illegals across the border, none of this would have happened!

Trump and his followers do this constantly. They will weaponize any issue that sparks an emotional response: illegal immigration (racism); abortion (misogyny); LGBTQ+ and especially trans issues (bigotry); taxes (financial insecurity); saber-rattling (victimization), and on and on.

Normalizing the Abnormal

There is another aspect to Trump’s playbook as well. The sheer volume of lies and chaos is overwhelming and people become exhausted trying to make sense of it or fight it. It is impossible for any single person to keep up with every crazy or illegal thing he or his minions are doing. It wears the opposition down and allows many of his acts to go through without effective opposition. Opponents are not able to discern which things he is serious about and which he is not. The signal-to-noise ratio is very low, but the noise level itself is immense which allows his true agenda to slip through the cracks.

The massive chaos serves another purpose as well: people become desensitized to it. If you are reading this post, you are probably following the latest developments on Twitter (X) and Bluesky and other social media every day because democracy and politics are important to you. Sometimes it is hard to remember that most Americans are not actually paying that much attention.

The billionaire MAGA scammers know this and use it to their advantage. The chaotic noise is so overwhelming that most people tune it out. It has become normalized and that allows Trump to do all kinds of crazy stuff without the majority of the citizens noticing. Sure, a few things will trickle into the mainstream media news stories but a lot of it will slide by unnoticed outside of Twitter.

Additionally, the constantly-changing decisions (like the Mexico tariffs mentioned above) and the resulting instability can cause a subconscious anxiety in the populace, even for people who are not paying attention. Trump does this on purpose. He knows instinctively that a final, permanent decision on any particular issue will be embraced because it finally just ends the chaos and brings stability. It eases people’s anxiety, even if the decision itself is batshit crazy. This is another technique to get everyday Americans to accept abnormal choices.

The Playbook Summarized

To summarize, watch for these techniques from Trump and his acolytes:

• Use emotional / cultural issues to rile up the MAGA base and rightwing influencers while tying the issues to their scams.

• Sow maximum chaos to distract and normalize the chaotic.

• Artificially create anxiety and instability and then come in with permanent policies that feel like a relief just because they are stable.

With a case full of cash, and St. Elon Musk too—

The whiny high voice of my current employer.

His eyes—how they darted! his fever, so scary!
His cheeks were all puffy, his nose like a cherry!
His smug little mouth was drawn up in a smirk,
And the gleam in his eye was as dark as his work;

The stump of a joint he held tight in his teeth,
And the smoke, it encircled his head like a wreath;
He had a pasty white face and a bouncy round belly
That shook when he cackled, like his ego, so jelly.

He was boastful and vain, a right haughty tech elf,
And I stared when I saw him, asserting myself;
A squint of his eye and a nod of his head,
Soon gave me to know the nation would dread;

He tossed me a check, we went straight to our grift,
And filled all our coffers; then turned with a shift,
And placing his finger, just under his nose,
And snorting a line, down the stairway he goes; 
He weaved to his Tesla, to his drones gave a leer,
And away they all zoomed, like a rocket's career.

But I heard him exclaim, ere he vanished from sight—
"Merry Christmas to us, and to hell with their rights!"

Our civilization boasts of its healthcare systems as if they were not only the apex of scientific achievement, but also a paragon of human morality. The overall metrics of health—infant mortality rates, maternal health outcomes, life expectancy compared to other industrialized nations—tell a story of persistent failure, regression, and moral collapse. These discrepancies are not accidental. They are symptoms of a system that never had true universal care at its heart. We pour billions into the development of groundbreaking drugs, yet we erect paywalls so high that only a fortunate fraction of patients will ever see them. The promise of modern medicine lies not only in its discoveries but in its equitable distribution—a promise we have so brazenly betrayed. I have lost friends—good, hardworking individuals—who slipped through the cracks because they could not afford the tests, the scans, the referrals. This was first published by independent journalist Ken Klippenstein (Bluesky: @kenklippenstein.bsky.social) who rightly published it when the major news outlets, in their infinite but incorrect wisdom, chose not to publish it.

To the Feds, I'll keep this short, because I do respect what you do for our country. To save you a lengthy investigation, I state plainly that I wasn't working with anyone. This was fairly trivial: some elementary social engineering, basic CAD, a lot of patience. The spiral notebook, if present, has some straggling notes and To Do lists that illuminate the gist of it. My tech is pretty locked down because I work in engineering so probably not much info there. I do apologize for any strife of traumas but it had to be done. Frankly, these parasites simply had it coming. A reminder: the US has the #1 most expensive healthcare system in the world, yet we rank roughly #42 in life expectancy. United is the [indecipherable] largest company in the US by market cap, behind only Apple, Google, Walmart. It has grown and grown, but as our life expectancy? No the reality is, these [indecipherable] have simply gotten too powerful, and they continue to abuse our country for immense profit because the American public has allwed them to get away with it. Obviously the problem is more complex, but I do not have space, and frankly I do not pretend to be the most qualified person to lay out the full argument. But many have illuminated the corruption and greed (e.g.: Rosenthal, Moore), decades ago and the problems simply remain. It is not an issue of awareness at this point, but clearly power games at play. Evidently I am the first to face it with such brutal honesty.

Is Mangione a MAGA chud with a grudge? Is he a deranged anti-capitalist Leftist? Or is he simply a lone crackpot with a grievance? Whatever the case, no one can deny that he has struck a chord with nearly all Americans who have been subjected to the profit motives of the U.S. insurance industry and the GOP’s absolute refusal to help fix it for far too long.

There are not “two sides” to this issue. Vigilante “justice” is abhorrent and morally wrong, and so too is the killing of Americans through the denial or delay of life-saving or prolonging medical treatment.

People’s health should not be subjected to someone else’s profit motive.
